The Loire Valley region
The Loire Valley, also known as the Garden of France, is one of the most beautiful regions of France, which enjoys fabulous sunny weather. It is famous for its châteaux and excellent food and wine. Red, white and rose wines are all produced locally and there are established routes around the local vineyards - Route de Vin- where you are encouraged to “degoustez” the local products
A wide range of activities is available for all the family: Fishing, swimming, go-karting, walking, biking, kayaking, horse riding, golf, tennis, parks, etc. There are markets to go to virtually every day of the week
Sightseeing ideas in the area:
Angers with its imposing Chateau, which, together with the towering Cathedral and its half-timbered houses is the centre of the Old Town. Don’t forget to visit the famous tapestry museum. Boutiques and bistros are lined up along the walking streets. with
Saumur, home to the national French riding school and the French cavalry. Dominating the town is the15th century Chateau of Saumur, home of the Anjou kings. The town has spectacular river views, boutiques, restaurants, theatre, bars and historic buildings, and on Saturdays a superb market selling local cheeses and fresh vegetables.
Fontevraud has the largest group of monastic buildings anywhere in Europe. The English Plantagenet Kings chose Fontevraud as their final resting place and the recumbent figures of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lionhearted and Isabel of Angoulême can be admired in Abbey Church.
Doue La Fontaine
"Guinefolle" is set in tranquil countryside near the wine producing communities of Doué la Fontaine, Cléré and Nueuil sur Layon, The nearby town of Doué-la-Fontaine has two big supermarkets, a weekly market on Mondays and plenty of little shops, restaurants, bars and cafés for every taste. There is also a tennis court in village (4km) and local public fishing.
Thouars, 20 minutes, hosts a huge and lively market on Fridays loved by locals and visitors alike.
Parc de valley in Massai is a great day out with its water party and canoes and Argenton Vallee has a suburb swimming pool Visit to the conservation zoo in Doue and the great theme park " Le Puy du Fou", the most important historical and ecological site in Europe.
There are many other delights to explore, but why not stay a day around Guinefolle for walking or biking, to enjoy a BBQ after a walk to Huber for wine tasting. Bargain-hunters should look out for "brocante" (bric-a-brac) markets and weekend antiques fairs – you can give you can go to the "depot-ventes", which sell everything (second-hand) from egg cups to huge wardrobes.
In summer most of the villages are celebrating their own theme food festivals with outdoor late dancing "soirée".
