About the home

150 year old Dorset stone barn modernised to high standard- open plan living- 4 bedrooms (3 doubles,1 single with truckle bed which turns into 2 single beds if required, plus cot) - suitable for children- no pets- no smoking-10 miles from the Jurassic Coast including West Bay the setting for the recently shown TV programme Broadchurch. Separate playroom. Outside terrace. Conservatory. Plasma TV. Free Wi-Fi. New Outback BBQ.
2 bathrooms (1 ensuite) and ground floor shower room with WC. Utility room. Master bedroom has 4 poster bed, LCD screen TV, en suite bathroom and dressing room/wardrobe. Large private garden and large parking area.
The Barn is situated in the village of Maiden Newton which is within easy reach of both coast and countryside. Maiden Newton has a station (25 minutes to Weymouth on the train) , which avoids any traffic conjestion or parking.

The West Country / Dorset region

Thomas Hardy country - rolling hills, lots of typical country pubs and walks. Vast number of local places of interest including the famous Abbotsbury Swannery and Tropical Gardens. About 12 miles to the sea (the Jurassic Coast). Nearest seaside town is Bridport. Dorchester (old Roman town) is 7 miles away. 12 miles to Weymouth. 20 miles to Lyme Regis. Poole, Swanage and Bournemouth are all less than an hour away.

The Dorchester / Maiden Newton area

Maiden Newton is a village with about 1,200 inhabitants, 7 miles north west of Dorchester. It has more facilities than most villages including a post office/corner shop, newsagent/coffee shop, hardware store, fish & chip shop, petrol station/Spar, pub and restaurant (www.le-petit-canard.co.uk). It also has a small railway station with trains to Dorchester (11 mins) and Weymouth (25 mins). The village is on Route 26 of the National Cycle Network. The pretty nearby village of Cattistock with the Fox & Hounds pub (excellent food) is about a mile away. Cerne Abbas (prettiest town in England 2008) with its famous phallic white chalk giant is a short drive away. Evershot which is mentioned in Hardy's books is also close. The Summer Lodge Hotel there has a Michelin star. The lovely market town of Bridport (street markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays) is about 9 miles away. For lovers of Thomas Hardy you can visit Hardy's cottage at Upper Bockhampton (his birthplace) and Max Gate where he spent his adult life.

“Amazing barn, everything you need, lovely location.” I travelled to Lynchett Chase Barn for a week with 6 adults and 3 young children under 3 in October 2011. The barn was breathtakingly beautiful with character and flair. Everything was clean and well presented and literally everything you needed for a holiday was there. The lady that manages the barn was extremely helpful and friendly and met us to give us the keys within 5 minutes of us arriving. The bedrooms were large and spacious and the bathrooms very up to date and modern. The kitchen is just like the picture- amazing!!!!!! The barn has underfloor heating which is lovely, especially for crawling babies and the log fire at night just topped of the character of the barn. For the children it was great as we kind of hid their toys in the conservatory! A good travel cot and highchair were provded for us which is really helpful. There was free access to wi-fi and SKY tv (basic package) in the barn which was an added bonus as the phone signal was not good there. They provide board games and thousands of leaflets about things to do! The barn is within an hour of some beautiful locations such as Weymouth, Bournemouth, Swanage (steam train is a must from Norden!) - we even went to the Outlet village at Street, Somerset! We took a few walks into the village of Maiden Newton and although small, some lovely things to view such as the church and station and a few shops too. Was a perfect location, amazing barn and would definiately recommend for a holiday!
