Dorchester

The location is ideal for walkers and cyclists, who can use the network of footpaths and cycle routes and there is good chalk stream fishing on the nearby River Piddle. The South Dorset beaches at Lulworth Cove, Ringstead Bay and Kimmeridge are some 8-10 miles away and the Isle of Purbeck a little further. For keen birdwatchers, a large number of migrating birds pass through the area and barn owls are resident on the adjoining farmland. This part of Dorset also has a number of interesting stately homes and museums to visit, such as Athelhampton, Hardy's Cottage and Cloud's Hill (both National Trust), Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum. Throop is about 12 miles from Blandford and Dorchester and about 2 hours' drive from London.
