For keen birdwatchers, a large number of migrating birds pass through the area and barn owls are resident on the adjoining farmland. This part of Dorset also has a number of interesting stately homes and museums to visit, such as Athelhampton, Hardy's Cottage and Cloud's Hill (both National Trust), Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum. Throop is about 12 miles from Blandford and Dorchester and about 2 hours' drive from London.
