Dorset is quite simply one of the most wonderful counties in Britain. Not only does it offer the spectacular World Heritage Jurassic coast with all it’s stunning coves, resorts and beaches, it also offers beautiful countryside and farmland peppered with intriguing small market towns. No wonder that it has been chosen as the venue for all the 2012 Olympic Sailing events in the glorious waters off Weymouth and Portland!
Famous internationally as the seting for most of Thomas Hardy's novels, Dorset continues to attract writers and artists, many of whom welcome vistors to their studios and workshops.
Alongside the rural beauty, you can always visit Poole, Bournemouth, where as well as lovely sandy beaches there are good theatres, top shops and a thriving nightlife.
If the weather’s good you may not get further than beautiful Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, but then you’d miss out on other fabulous locations such as Corfe Castle, Hardy's Cottage,The Cerne Abbas Giant, the Tank Museum, Monkey World, the Blue Pool, Swanage Railway, Sherborne Abbey, Portland Bill and many others…
The Dorchester / Winfrith Newburgh area

Open air concerts are often held at Kingston Lacey, an imposing National Trust property near Wimborne, and also on the Lulworth Castle Estate who host the Bestival Festival in August. Another popular event is the Lamar Tree Festival near Salisbury in July and the famous Stourpaine Steam Rally in late August.

We have just spent a long weekend in this cosy cottage with a lovely view.. Great location near to the coast, with lots to see and do. Spotlesssly clean with a high standard of furniture, linens etc. A very warm welcome from Sue our host, who was on hand but very discreet. We really appreciated the welcome basket with top quality ingredients. We are hoping to return and see all the places we missed this time. |

4 of us stayed here in early September and we enjoyed it very much. It was great to relax upstairs with the green views and the wood burner keeping us very warm. The downstairs ensuite bedrooms are also beautifully laid out. The warm welcome and Meggie the dog and the hens were a bonus! Hopefully we can make it back soon. |
