The Galway / County Clare / County Clare region

The Aran Islands, a group of 3 islands, each with its own beauty and tranquillity, just off the coast of North Clare are an extension of the mainland Burren formation, and can be easliy reached by regular daily ferries from Doolin port. Dun Aengus Ring Fort on Inis Mor is the most impressive bronze age fort in Europe, definitely worth a visit. There is a beautiful view of the Aran Islands from our cottage. Experience the sun setting on the bay and Islands from our sunroom in the evening.

Burren is an area of over 100 square miles of limestone rock situated in north county Clare. It is an area of immense natural beauty, a mixture of curiously eroded limestone, lush pastures, ancient settlements, and an array of flora and fauna so diverse that no other location in the world can equal it.

Lisdoonvarna is Ireland's Premier Wellness and Spa Town and is currently the only active Spa Town in Ireland. The Lisdoonvarna waters are sulphur, iron and magnesia mineral springs, all of which contain the valuable therapeutic element of iodine. Lisdoonvarna is famous also for matchmaking and is one of the main attractions of holidaymakers.

September is the peak month of the holiday season and men and women of all ages flocking to this town in search of love and marriage, many more in search of a good time and to enjoy the craic. One thing is for sure, a good time is available to all whatever your tastes.

Doolin / Burren area

Doolin savour the cultural riches of music, song and dance, where traditional musicians gather to celebrate Clare's musical wealth. Traditional music can be heard nightly in the local pubs.

The Burren Smoke House is open to visitors and provides guided tours. It is worth a visit to see the process of traditional smoking of various kinds of fish.

Doolin Cave recently opened, with the largest Stalactite in the northern hemisphere is less than 1.5 miles from the cottage.

In Kilfenora, visit the Burren Centre, which explains the formation on the Burren area and its 340 million year old history, also visit the 12 century High Crosses and Cathedral. Enjoy Set dancing with the Four Courts Ceile Band on Sunday and Thursday nights all year round. Great fun for all.

Guestbook for Burren Haven Cottage

04/23/09 - Kim Daly , Tucson, AZ MYself, husband, 16 month old son, parents, sister and brother-in-law vacationed here from various locations in the U.S. I loved the view from Katherine's cottage and the location. The cottage itself is beautiful and spacious. She had accommodations for all age groups. You can see the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher from the sitting room and the house was located maybe a five minutes drive from Doolin. I would recommend this cottage.

02/26/09 - M. Rainsford , Philadelphia, PA Katherine, One of the best parts of my 'mid-life crisis excursion' was staying at your place in Doolin! The place is just as advertised: bright, huge, with incredible views of the Cliffs and the Aran Islands. I really appreciate your meeting us in Lisdoonvarna and guiding us in. The activity binder with maps, etc. was very helpful. Next time I'm bringing my kids and staying for awhile! Thanks a million! M. Rainsford - Philadelphia, PA.
