About the home

Southsound thatched cottage is set in a 14acre valley at the base of the Burren. The Burren, on your doorstep, is an important geological and botanical nature preserve as well as a bird sanctuary and archaeological paradise. It has a difference of about 4 degrees warmer because the Burren rock holds the heat.

The area boasts beautiful Blue Flag beaches, Championship golf courses and of course the famous Cliffs of Moher. We are also only 1.5km from the newly opened Pol an Ionain cave which boasts the worlds largest stalactite.

There is a beautiful BBQ area right next to the house.

“Secluded retreat, Loved it!” Wonderful stay in a sweet , but roomy cottage. There were only the 2 of us so we had room to spare. Doesn't over look the ocean, but the views from all around are spectacular. I went for walks... more

“Truly awesome accommadations” My family of seven recently spent a lovely week in Doolin in County Clare at South Sound cottage. The cottage was very cozy, clean and had just about all the amenties you could ask for. South Sound is settled in a lovely peaceful part of the Burren, very relaxing. The location was a bit far out but the view and surronding scenery was well worth the drive. but fairly close to all attractions, (Caves, Cliffs, Aran Islands). Kathy and her husband was very kind and helpful always just a phone call away if you needed help or information. Highly recommend this cottage. My adult children loved the area and the cottage, we have fond memories and will certainly return to South Sound on our next trip to Ireland. Thank you Kathy for kindness.

“Absolutely perfect” We stayed four nights in the cottage and loved it. It looked great online and was even better in person. The owners were fantastic and very welcoming. The cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We can't wait to visit Ireland again and this cottage will be our first choice for a place to stay.

“Perfect Ireland get-away cottage” Set in luscious green countryside outside the fun and friendly town of Doolin. Very comfortable accommodations--slept peacefully every night in the cozy beds. Convenient access to the Ireland we always wanted to see and experience--the Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Clare Heritage Center and Genealogy library, portal tombs, castles, tea and scones, beaches, great food and Guinness in the pubs, and Irish music at its best. The roomy cottage allowed my sisters, niece and I to visit over a leisurely breakfast, pack picnic lunches for our day trips, read quietly in front of the fire, or hike near the cottage. We also spent a fabulous day on Dingle Peninsula. This cottage exceeded our expectations.
