Looking for that really special 'get away from it all' rural holiday home? Gilfachwydd farmhouse sleeps 6-8 guests & is set in a truly beautiful location, close to Cader Idris, Gwernan Lake & Dolgellau in Snowdonia National Park.

Gilfachwydd is an authentic and cosy, 18c, traditional stone build, beamed ceilings, farmhouse/cottage, with two/three bedrooms and enjoys stunning rural views from many aspects. This delightful stone farmhouse/cottage has been tastefully decorated to a high standard, whilst retaining many character features included 2 wood burners, along with the comforts of modern living.

Set in an enviable, elevated position close to Cader Idris, Gwernan and Creganain Lakes, but only a couple of miles from civilisation, it enjoys fabulous views of the beautiful Snowdonia countryside. Miles of stunning walks await you.

With a large farmhouse kitchen, huge dining room, stunning conservatory, big sitting room, 2 main bedrooms, a landing area with put up beds, 2 bathroom and lots of outside space.

Gilfachwydd was originally built as a traditional Welsh farm and due to is unique location part of the land is now a quiet 'Caravan Club' site aimed at the 'get away from it all' campers. The small front part of the farmhouse is used as the site office, (not really manned there is an honesty box for the caravan club members), but it is totally separated from the large main house which the guests enjoy full and private use of. This is your perfect holiday home, not overlooked (only by sheep) with a lovely rear private garden, a big patio with built in BBQ, perfect setting for al fresco dining. Also, FREE WIFI!

Just a 5 min short walk to the Gwernan pub, 10mins drive into Dolgellau & 15 min drive to the coast at Barmouth & Fairbourne.

Set in The Snowdonia National Park, Gilfachwydd is ideally situated for whatever type of holiday you want. A big CO-OP & Euro Spar stores are a 10 min drive. Dolgellau old town has a leisure centre with, Pubs, Cafes, Good restaurants (can recommend several) independent shops and a monthly farmers market. There is a Wednesday Market in Machylleth all year round.

For those with young families, miles of sweeping sandy beaches can be found in Tywyn, Aberdovey or Barmouth. If you're into cycling or horse riding, there are numerous scenic places to ride. This is a walker's paradise with Cadair Idris just a few minutes away & the house is dog friendly!


With fairly level access off the drive, you enter through the rear enclosed garden and into the kitchen, with real slate flooring, beamed ceilings and a 'pully' as a feature.

This lovely big cottage style kitchen is hand made in wood and give the farmhouse a very authentic rustic feel. It is really well equipped with everything you require to cook for a large family or group, including a filter coffee machine, microwave and much more. There are 2 washing up areas, one with a Belfast sink. The kitchen boasts a superb range of appliances, including an American fridge/freezer, dishwasher, a huge range style cooker with numerous ring gas hob and 2 electric ovens. Views over the front garden & pond. Hills in the foreground.

The kitchen leads into the beamed ceiling dining room which has a magnificent solid oak table and 6 period chairs, additional folding chairs are provide so we can sit up to 8 guests. There are carpeted floors. The main feature is a magnificent log burner to keep the chill out on those cold winter nights. There is also an electric reclining sofa, which sits 2 people. An organ and a piano plus a lovely period sideboard.

The large beamed ceiling sitting room has a lovely inglenook fireplace with a huge wood burner, original bread oven, cosy seating for 6 people, newly carpeted floors, a lovely period sideboard and enjoys views over the rear garden & terrace. There is a flat screen TV and book case with dozens of DVD's books and games.

The dining room leads onto the spacious and sunny conservatory which has a real wood floor. This will be your favourite 'chill out zone' with lovely brand new 'rattan' sofas & chairs to relax on and enjoy the lovely views of the gardens and the mountains as a backdrop.

Patio door lead out to the patio area where there is a huge round wooden picnic table & benches and a build it in brick BBQ.


An oak staircase leads to the first floor, which has an impressive landing area with carpeted floors plus beamed ceiling. This space is the '3rd bedroom' with 2 proper adult size fold up beds with 6” comfy mattresses. View of the gardens.

We comfortably sleeps 6 people but we can sleep 8 by use 2 adult size put up beds, a £35 supplement per extra person applies.

Gilfachwydd is set in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park and is surrounded by spectacular scenery.

Rear garden & patio: South East facing which benefits from the sun during the daytime and backing onto a lovely rural landscape with fields & mountains as a backdrop. There is a patio area with a big picnic bench plus further table & chairs can be brought out of the conservatory. 2 Sun loungers are available and guests have use of a family size built in barbecue.

Front garden: With stunning mountain views, off road parking spaces for many cars.

Additional info:

Short breaks when available: Monday- Friday 4 nights & Friday-Monday 3 nights.

Changeover day is Friday in the main season.

There is a £25 booking fee and a minimum charge of £399 applies to any stay. We also ask for a £250 security deposit, which is refundable providing there are no breakages or damage to the property

Prices inclusive of electric, oil, bedding & towels. Please bring your own beach towels.

We comfortably sleeps 6 people but we can sleep 8 by use 2 adult size put up beds, a £35 supplement per extra person applies.

We request a 25% deposit on booking, with the balance due 8 weeks before the arrival date.

We have a cot & high chair for a baby if needed.

We will also consider taking one dog with a £25 surcharge applying.

We accept payment by BACS bank transfer or by cheque. Also 'paypal' a 1.5% surcharge applies.

It is the guest's responsibility to insure against any losses that may occur should the need to cancel their holiday arise.

Whatever you're into: fishing, surfing, kite boarding, sailing, mountain biking, bird watching, painting, landscape photography or horse riding, there are endless scenic places to explore.

This region of Wales is without doubt a 'hidden gem' with some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain. This is a walker's paradise with Cader Idris just a few minutes drive away! Snowdon is only 60 minutes by car.

Don't worry if you're not the active type, the flat & effortless Mawddach Trail, featured in Julia Bradbury's 'Great Railway Walks' program, is accessible to everyone and takes you on a journey along one of the UK's most spectacular estuaries, brimming with wildlife.

There are miles of beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches, as well as many local attractions, such as the Talyllyn Narrow Gauge Railway, which steams from Tywyn up to the mystical Dolgoch Falls. Just a few miles away is the stunning Talyllyn Lake. 15 minutes away towards Corris, is the world renowned 'Centre for Alternative Technology' or (CAT) which is a fascinating place to visit and learn. Close to CAT is The Corris Craft Centre and King Arthurs Labyrinth, another 'must visit' place.


The ancient market town of Dolgellau is situated in the spectacular scenery of Southern Snowdonia National Park. The town is close to Cader Idris Mountain and on the Wnion River, a tributary of the stunning Mawddach estuary. The town has a rich heritage with over 200 listed buildings forming the centre. The community benefits from a great variety of shops, restaurants and amenities within Dolgellau including a doctors, dentists and hospital.

There are good bus services to the other local towns and good local railway connections from Barmouth or Fairbourne along the glorious Cambrian Coastal route. Tourism is an important and growing industry for the area. Cader Idris attracts climbers from all over the UK. Miles of sandy beaches, boating and water sports are close by at Barmouth & Fairbourne. The surrounding area is known for its wild but beautiful countryside and places of historical interest, which provide the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities such as mountain biking, walking, horse riding, fishing, white-water rafting and climbing,

The Mawddach trail was recently featured in Julia Bradbury's ' Great Railway Walks 'documentary. 'Go Ape' have recently opened an outdoor adventure centre at Coed Y Brenin, just a short drive from the centre of the town. Nature Lovers are well catered for here, with the RSPB nature reserve situated in the nearby Mawddach Valley.

The town, with its restaurants, cafes & shops, is just a few minutes' walk away and the beaches in Barmouth and Fairbourne are a short drive.
