About this location
The Liguria region
Ten kilometres will take you to the shores of the Med, and also to Ventimiglia, the border town with France and renowned for its Friday market, and Bordighera, the Cannes of the Costa Azurra.
From Ventimiglia you can follow the picturesque route up the mountainous valleys to the local ski stations (between one and two hours way) of Limone (Italy), Valberg, Auron and Isola 2000 (France). Alternatively, you can access the Autoroute, ,heading east into Italy direction San Remo, Alessio and the Costa Azurra; or west into France and the delights of Menton, Antibes, Cannes and St Tropez, without forgetting of course the Principality of Monaco (approx 30 minutes away). Most of these can be visited by train too from XXmiglia or Bordighera. There is a regular local bus to Ventimiglia or up the valley
Alternatively you may wish to head up the valley towards the mountains to a number of quaint villages or the spa at Pigna (about 20 mins away)
Or you may just wish to put the car away and relax in the quiet but warm welcome Dolce Aqua extends to all visitors.
Sitting on the river Nervia, which meanders gently to the Med a few kilometres away, Dolceaqua (literally Sweet Water) is a typico small, pretty, Italian village, whilst but a short distance from the delights of both the Italian Costa Azzura and the French Riviera.
Dolce Aqua has retained the charm of its long ancestry, with the central Piazza by the river and the village, a warren of delightful pedestrian ruelles, rising out on either side, and all is dominated by the ancient chateau standing guard over both the village and the valley since the middle ages.
Although steeped in history the village has all the amenities required for the modern traveller. The local shops and Thursday morning market can supply everything necessary, including of course the local specialities, olive oil and rosé wine (rossesse) and there are a surprising number of cafes and restaurants (all good!) , all of this without needing to use the car.
