The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude.
Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park.
Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages.
Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster.
Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
The Doddington, Northumberland area
Nestled in the lovely countryside of north Northumberland, 2.5 miles northeast of scenic Wooler, lies the village of Doddington. Part of a circle of rural communities around Milfield Plain, Doddington sits between two branches of a river tributary that meets the River Till. Alnwick Castle, Holy Island and the Heritage Coast are all within reach, as are the country walking opportunities of Wooler. Locally the area is known as “The Gateway to the Cheviots”, and it’s within reach of the stunning Northumberland National Park, above the Wooler Water. Doddington itself is now a thriving rural community whose economy has been boosted by the Doddington Dairy which sells its delicious local cheeses and ice creams throughout the county.

Guestbook for 1455 - Honeysuckle Cottage
This cottage is a very comfortable, clean, light, yet homely place to be. It is very well-equipped and spacious. The peace and quiet of the location was especially appreciated.

July 2011
,A real home from home. Very tastefully decorated and comfortable. Kitchen equipment was excellent. Very thoughtfully equipped throughout - especially soap in bathroom/cloakroom, washing up liquid in kitchen. Everything was in kitchen drawers/cupboards that you would expect to find in your own kitchen - right down to sandwich boxes for packed lunches.
Mrs Silverman, Solihull, West Midlands

,Very nice location with a relaxed environment - the cottage was modern and stylish. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit that part of the country.
