Home description
Nestled at the foot of Carrig hill, Carraig a’ Dúin is a luxury holiday home located in the beautiful Gaeltacht area of Ballydavid, 5 miles west of Dingle town.
Our closest beach is only a 5 minute stroll from the cottage, at Muiríoch. It is a long, sandy beach wonderful for walking, safe for swimming and ideal for building sand castles. This is only one of the many beaches in the area. At Ballydavid pier (approx. 10 min walk) there are two smaller beaches which are also very popular.

The County Kerry region
County Kerry is situated on the south-west coast of Ireland. Its greatest asset as a tourist county is its scenery - sea, mountains and lakes. Its large expanses of green are due mainly to the climate which is mild in the main and we get plenty of rain. The summers can be very mixed, weather-wise - we may experience relatively stable periods of very fine, sunny weather but also, there can be periods of rainfall. However, most people visiting Ireland are already aware of this and don't seem to mind it if the weather isn't wonderful.
The county is quite big and while there is a huge amount to do and see in Kerry - Muckross house and Lakes of Killarney in Killarney; The Geraldine Centre (museum) and The Aquadome (water activity centre - swimming pool and water-slides) I suggest that the West Kerry area probably provides more than enough sight-seeing and activities to keep you occupied for at least one holiday.
Dingle / Ballydavid area
Ballydavid is a small West Kerry fishing village situated in Smerwick Harbour facing "The Three Sisters". It is one of the few remaining Gaeltacht (irish speaking) areas in Ireland so try your cúpla focal in the local shops and pubs.
For those of you who enjoy an active holiday, there are many different walks for you to try and for the very serious hikers, how about climbing Mount Brandon (3,000 feet). Take a trip to the Blasket Islands, an amazing experience of beautiful landscape which was the source of inspiration for many great writers and artists. Golf is also available at Ceann Sibéal links course approx. 20 mins drive away. Also, there are many archaeological sites within a stone's throw - Gallarus Oratory, one of the best preserved examples of dry-stone built early Christian churches in Ireland, dating back to the 9th century. Cill Mhaolchéadair is another example of early Christian churches in the area and a little further afield at Ventry, beehive huts.
Dingle town itself is only 8km away and is home to many shops, cafés, restaurants, art galleries, sailing club, etc. Spend a lazy afternoon exploring the town, browsing in the shops, enjoy lunch on the marina, take a boat trip to see Fungi the Dolphin, Dingle's most famous resident and at night time visit any one of the numerous pubs to enjoy a session of traditional irish music.
These are only a few suggestions for you on your holiday and certainly this is only a taster of all that awaits you in Dingle/Ballydavid.

Further details indoors: My favourite area of the house is the main living space which accounts for almost half of the total floor area of the house. It is an open-plan space comprising kitchen, dining and living room. The large dining area comfortably accommodates eight people and leads out to a seating area which is east-facing to benefit from the morning sun, fab for breakfasting al fresco. The living area has a vaulted ceiling and its main large window affords views of Smerwick Harbour and The Three Sisters. A second patio area can be accessed from the living room and afternoon sun may be enjoyed here on comfortable loungers while admiring the view of Smerwick Harbour.
The 3 bedrooms are generously proportioned with solid oak floors and luxury 100% cotton bed linen to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep. The master bedroom, with its king-size bed, is en-suite with power shower. The second double bedroom, also with king-size bed, has direct access to main bathroom with full bath and separate shower. The third bedroom is a twin bedroom.
