Home description
Located in the centre of Dinard, this three storey property is an ideal base for a family holiday. Comprising of five bedrooms, three on the top floor (two doubles and a twin with bunks) and two on ground level (a double and a twin) it comfortably sleeps 10.
The house stands on one of the roads leading down to the market. The indoor food section of this is open every morning but on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays traders come from far and wide and sell just about everything. Musicians and street entertainers add to the bustling atmosphere!
The main town is five minutes walk and contains restaurants, creperies, snack bars and pizzerias. There are four beaches in Dinard but the main one, Plague de l’Ecluses with its crescent of distinctive blue and white changing tents is a ten minute stroll.
The Marina can be reached within ten minutes walk and is the centre of much activity. During the evening the walkway around the Marina area is lit and leads to two excellent restaurants located just under the archway from the main beach area.

The Brittany / Ille-et-Vilaine region
Dinard is situated on the mouth of the River Rance. On the other side of the estuary is St Malo – an ancient city teaming with life within its grey granite walls. Places of interest include the Labyrinthe du Corsaire, a magnificent maze; the Musee du Histoire de la Ville and an Aquarium.
Regular boats travel between Dinard and St Malo. Further down the Rance is Brittany’s best preserved medieval city of Dinan. A leisurely 45 minute boat ride or 20 minute car drive away, Dinan is full of old world charm with picturesque 15th and 16th century half-timbered houses, complete with pointed gables and wooden porches line the cobbled streets. There is a 14th century castle and ramparts completely circling the town which houses a museum offering a fascinating insight into some of this local history.
Just an hours car journey west of Dinard is Fort du latte. Central to the history of the area, this impressive fort was involved over the centuries in many skirmishes with the English. It last saw real action in 1815 during the Hundred Years war but more recently was the set for the 1958 film The Vikings with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis. Many of the citizens of Dinard were extras and dressed up as Vikings! It is in good condition and well worth a visit. A trip to Fort du latte can be linked to a good walk and a visit to Cap Fahel. Just 4km up the coast along a spectacular coast path, Cap Fahel offers amazing views across to Pointe de Groin in the East and Ile de Brehar in the West, 70 foot cliffs and close encounters with many sea birds.
Concale, just 20 minutes drive from Dinard is famous for oysters. The oyster beds are visible at the low tide and cover many hundred hectares. The town itself offers fantastic sea food restaurants at very reasonable prices.
Just under an hour away is the famous Gothic-style Benedictine Abbey of Mont St Michel. Perched on a rocky, cone shaped islet in the midst of immense sandbanks it is accessible over a causeway.
Around the same distance away at Pleugueneuc is the fantastic La Bourbansais Park and castle. Housing a zoo with many endangered species, there are also daily displays by Birds of Prey, including a Golden Eagle and demonstrations by French hounds.
Dinard area
Dinard has four beaches, the largest of which is Plague de l’Ecluses which is full of activity through out the summer, including holding national volleyball tournaments. The beaches are all cleaned daily and have life guards on duty between 10.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. For the little ones there are children’s clubs offering trampolines, organised games and table tennis and, for water sport lovers, wind surfing and sailing tuition is available.
A eight kilometre coastal walk meanders around the rocks which links the beeches of St Enogat and St Lunaire. Around the beech area there is an indoor and outdoor pool and the house that is reputed to have inspired Hitchcock to write his Psycho movie – there is even a film festival here in early October to celebrate this!
Boats regularly sail from Dinard over to St Malo, down the river to Dinan and even into the Channel to Chausey.
There is horse riding based in the town at an Equestrian Centre which holds National and International events, one of the largest of which takes place over three days at the beginning of August.
There are three golf courses nearby and many others along the brittany coast.
In the evenings there is a lively casino and restaurant with great views across the bay.
Firework displays take place on the beach to celebrate Bastille Day (14th July) and on or around 15th August (depending on the tide) to commemorate the liberation of Dinard by the Americans at the end of the Second World War.
