About the home

The location of Ar Ty Chaux is unique – set on the river Rance and on the site of a former lime kiln , the house was converted from two lime workers cottages by it's architect and artist owners.Formerly used as an Art Gallery, the house was designed to take advantage of the light reflecting from the river, and the superb natural setting of woodlands and meadows. The interior has been carefully planned by the owners to be stylish and modern, with large windows to fully appreciate the beautiful views over the countryside and river. Central heating and good insulation throughout the house make the house extremely comfortable even in the depths of winter and make it an ideal base to explore the area.A short walk along the river brings you to medieval Dinan the beautiful village of Léhon is also close. The superb sandy beaches of the North coast are a 30 minute drive away.

The first floor of the house has a kitchen / dining area with large windows overlooking the river. On this floor is also found three bedrooms - one with a double bed, one with a bunk bed and the third with two singles. Bathroom with WC.
On the ground floor is a living area, with access to a gravelled courtyard and the river path.

There is no TV at this property due to it's location in the river valley.

The house overlooks the river Rance, and has a lawned garden area with views over the river,On the hillside to the rear of the house, there is a large wooded area.
Exclusive parking is just next to the front gate.
There is a heated open air swimming pool at Léhon , this can be reached by car in about 10 minutes.
Boats, canoes and cycles can all be hired on the port of Dinan , a short walk along the tow path.

We ask for a 25% deposit to secure the booking, the balance is payable 8 weeks before your holiday. A £200 refundable damage deposit is payable 2 weeks before you arrive, this is refunded within a week of your departure.

Conditions

Please be aware that the house is on the river bank, so if you have very young children, you will need to supervise them.

The port of dinan, a short walk away

The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region

Brittany is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The long coastline is a succession of rocky headlands,high cliffs, peaceful coves and beautiful sandy beaches. Inland is equally attractive. Fairytale castles, historic towns and ancient megaliths are sprinkled through the gentle hilly countryside. A wide variety of interests are well catered for , including golf, fishing, all sorts of watersports, hiking and cycling. The region is easily accessible from the UK with ferry ports at St Malo , Roscoff or Cherbourg and with Ryanair providing very low cost flights to Dinard.

The Dinan area

Dinan is perhaps the place where Medieval Brittany seems most alive and most real, with a wealth of perfectly preserved timber framed buildings. An impressive castle and stone ramparts surround the historic core of the town, where can be found a good number of artists galleries and artisans workshops as well as a wide selection of good restaurants. Rue Du Jerzual and Rue Du Petit Fort lead through one of the ancient town gates down to the Port, winding between two perfect rows of restored and protected artisans' houses.
On the Port you can sit and watch the world go by from one of the riverside cafes and restaurants, take a boat trip to the old citadel port of St. Malo or hire a self drive boat or canoe and explore the delightful river Rance. The more energetic may prefer to walk or cycle up or down the towpath. Ten minutes upstream is the picturesque village of Lehon with its own castle, twelfth century abbey and open air heated swimming pool complex.
There is a good number of excellent golf courses a short drive away from the house, including Dinard (founded in 1887), St Malo, Pen Guen (St Cast) and Sables D'Or at Cap Frehel. Perhaps the best course is located at Pléneuf Val André, which should be on every golfers 'must play' list. As the language can sometimes be a barrier , we can liaise with the course on your behalf and book tee times for you so your golf is all arranged before you arrive.

Dinan is easily reached from the port of St Malo or the nearby airport of Dinard ( Ryanair offer very low cost flights from the UK) , both are within 40 minutes drive. The Ferry ports of Roscoff , Cherbourg and Caen are all within 2 hours easy drive on France's well maintained road network.
