The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region

The Cote d'Armor (to the north) is on the English Channel. The large busy towns on the Cote d'Armor are Dinard, St Malo, and St Brieuc.
The isle of Mont St Michel is within distance of these, a great attraction and well worth a visit. Numerous picturesque towns are spread along the coast with golden sandy beaches, clean sea and granite rocks.
There are fine châteaux in the area along with museums, zoos, aquaria and parks.
The Dinan / Lanvallay area
The charming medieval town of Dinan with its cobbled streets, almost surrounded by its original stone walls which have stood for more than 1000 years, is ten minutes drive away with shops, superb restaurants, cafes, hotels and bars in a welcoming atmosphere.
There is a large busy street market every Thursday. From the shops, the rue Jerzual leads down to the scenic port of Dinan with riverside restaurants, cafes and boating shop, its moorings for small yachts and cabin cruisers on the River Rance. The rue Jerzual is 'the street of craftsmen' where you can find art, wood carving and sculpture studios. The town has its own Jacobin theatre, indoor swimming pool, and cinema (French).
Lanvallay, which adjoins Dinan, is a large busy village with hotel, newsagent and tobacconist, boulangeries, a chocolatier, post office, bank, hairdresser, garages, garden centre, and boules club. Iit also has two very large and excellent supermarkets with fresh meat, fish, shellfish, vegetables, cheeses and fruit which haven't been in dol storage.
The nearby village of Lehon (10 mins) stands on the River Rance and is an artist's dream, whether you paint, draw or use a camera. It also has tennis courts and heated outdoor swimming pools and smaller one for learners and children.
There are guided walking tours of medieval Dinan, which can be booked at the Tourist office. You can also find charming country walks of your own. Again, the Tourist office will advise. For those interested in history, the Cote d'Armor has a great deal of the romance of a bygone age. The list of what there is to look at is too long to include here, but can be provided at the gite.

Guestbook for La Basse Ville Gromil
To Guiy and Ann, thank you for a wonderful stay at your gite. We very much enjoyed our time in Bretagne. We found it incredibly peaceful and comfortable and could not have asked for more. Oh yes, if a bigger group stayed here, they would need more glasses. (Guy: that's been rectified). Other than that, perfect. We think you could sell Ann's beautiful rose garden more on your website. Bruce, Tara and daughter Phoebe, aged two.
Ann and Guy, Thank you so much for arrmging our stay in a most comfortable, pleasant and peaceful gite. It has proved exceptional. An important factor of a holiday is the hosts. You both have made our holiday a very happy one.
Derek
. . . . . what more can I add to what Derek has said. We love the comfort and cosiness of the gite. I also have loved being so close to Dinan. We have stayed in many places in Brittany over the years and feel this is the 'gem.'
Vanessa
Dear Guy and Ann, Thank you for a fabulous holiday. We loved the gite and with four kids (8-15) we were delighted to find it so spacious and comfortable. A real home from home. The location is perfect: so peaceful and relaxing yet so close to beautiful beaches and attractions. It was a pleasure to meet you both -- we felt so welcome and relaxed. We will definitely be back.
Catherine, Alan, Liam, Ross, Scott and Indie.
