The Brittany region
Brittany is a beautiful area, with a long attractive coastline and beautiful sandy beaches, dramatic headlands and peaceful coves. Along the coast, you can find a series of seaside towns and villages, each with their own charms. Just south of the ferry port of St Malo is Dinan, one of Brittany's best preserved medieval towns with a wealth of timber framed merchant's houses and a network of cobbled streets.
Inland is equally attractive, with peaceful countryside where you can find traditional Breton villages, chapels and market towns.
The house is just off the Place St Saveur, one of Dinan's prettiest squares , and located in the unspoilt medieval town centre. The town has a network of narrow cobbled streets among the many fine half timbered buildings which now are the home of bakeries, shops, artists galleries, restaurants and cafés. The town is surrounded by impressive stone ramparts and there is a well preserved castle housing the local museum.
There is a good selection of restaurants and bistros catering for all budgets, and a couple of reasonably sized supermarkets , all within an easy walk from the house, so there's no real need for a car.
The Rue Du Jerzual leads from the town centre through one of the ancient town gates down to the Port, winding between two perfect rows of restored and traditional houses.
On the Port you can sit and watch the world go by from one of the riverside cafes and restaurants, take a boat trip to the old citadel port of St. Malo or hire a self drive boat and explore the delightful river Rance.
Bike hire is also available in the town or on the port. The beautiful sandy beaches of the north coast can be reached in about 35 minutes..
