The Brittany region

Brittany is an area of breathtaking natural beauty. The long coastline is a seemingly endless succession of rocky headlands, wild cliffs, island studded bays and beautiful sandy beaches. Inland is equally attractive. Fairytale castles, historic towns and ancient megaliths are sprinkled through the gentle hilly countryside. A wide variety of interests are well catered for , including golf, fishing, all sorts of watersports, hiking and cycling. The region is easily accessible from the UK with ferry ports at St Malo , Roscoff or Cherbourg and with Ryanair providing very low cost flights to Dinard.

Dinan

Dinan is perhaps the place where Medieval Brittany seems most alive and most real. Behind the ramparts the old centre of town vibrates with life. The sagging, cantilevered timber fronted dwellings leaning crazily on each other, still house merchants, though their trades may have changed. Rue Du Jerzual and Rue Du Petit Fort lead through one of the ancient town gates down to the Port, winding between two perfect rows of restored and protected artisans' houses.

On the Port you can sit and watch the world go by from one of the riverside cafes and restaurants, take a boat trip to the old citadel port of St. Malo or hire a self drive boat and explore the delightful river Rance. The more energetic may prefer to walk or cycle up or down the towpath. Ten minutes upstream is the picturesque village of Lehon with its own castle, twelfth century abbey and open air heated swimming pool complex.

There is a good number of excellent golf courses a short drive away from the house, including Dinard (founded in 1887), St Malo, Pen Guen (St Cast) and Sables D'Or at Cap Frehel. Perhaps the best course is located at Pléneuf Val André, which should be on every golfers 'must play' list. As the language can sometimes be a barrier , we can liaise with the course on your behalf and book tee times for you so your golf is all arranged before you arrive.

"Bright airy and well appointed."

We stayed here in mid April and were unlucky enough to have mvery mixed weather - cold at night with frosts and heavy April showers. However the house was extremely comfortable and the log fires in the evenings made it all very warm and welcoming. The kitchen is well appointed and the glassed dining area is wonderful. It wasn't warm enough to sit out but the decked areas would be lovely on a sunny day. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds comfortable.
The old port with its excellent restaurants is a shprt walk away and Dinan is worth exploring. The surroudning area is worth exploring also - Fougeres and St Malo and Dinard to name but a few.Ii would recommend ths cottage for adults and older children - not for young children though as the deep river is very close by and I wouldn't be happy to let children out alone.

"Peaceful and Relaxing with easy access to the Town"

We stayed for one week in August. I travelled with my husband and our 5 year old son. The house exceeded our expectations, it has an amazing location directly overlooking the river, so you can just sit and watch all the boats pass by. Easy walking access (2 mins) to the restaurants at the Port which was such a plus!..
The house is finished to exceedingly high standard and is a very flexible layout for small and larger groups alike. Direct access on to the walking and cycling routes to Lehon and the outdoor swimming pool.
Beautiful house!
