Home description
Here right in the centre of wonderful ancient Dinan you'll find our apartments. With ample parking localy ( or garage available). The first floor apartment is extravagant in design and size, built for corporate entertainment for the bank, it' is now a grand and spacious apartment. The apartment's size will impress, it's decorated tastefully and finished to a fine standard, ( owned by a local dignitary for many years). Our representertive will greet you and and spend time giving you infomation on the town , local sights and history, also on the many beaches, coastal towns & trips. Ancient Dinan is a time locked wonder, filled with galleries, famous artist studios and museums. Dinan is the most complete and original walled city in Brittany, with history of a fortified settlement dating from pre Roman times. Walk the ancient walls that repelled invaders long before William the Conqueror lay siege to it in 1058ad. Wander the romantic streets, down cobbled lanes that have been trod for thousands of years. The rue de Jurezel will lead down to the old port, here you can rest in one of the many bistros or bars and enjoy this wonderful setting.

The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region
Northern Brittany is often overlooked yet has wonderful beaches and coastal towns and the most amazing history, Brittany (little Britain) takes its name from the Brits tribe that fled here when the German tribes invaded England in the dark ages, "here you're not in France" as I was once told, "you're in Brittan".
Brittany has a strong Celtic link and sees itself as different from the rest of France, and it is. Here community life seems to have a strong backbone, with moral sanity that translates into everyday having its periods of relaxation and community as well as industry.
Here time slows and lunch is respected to be far more than a food brake, in the locals you can observe a culture that in essence has not yet moved into the 20th century and I for one love it.
Wonderful coast and beaches, lovely tranquil towns and villages, thousands of years of history, from pirates and smugglers , dukes and king , its all waiting for you to discover it.
Dinan area
Dinan is a perfect place the escape to, here life is slow and civilised. Here in Dinan you are in a wonderful time locked city, with thousands of years of history.
Tread these ancient cobbled lanes and discover the wonders of Dinan. Follow the cobbled lane down to the port that has traded since Roman times. Rest in one of the many bars and bistros in this tranquil setting, or explore. Wander along the river to Lehon and its 13th century monastery and oldest castle in Brittany.
In Dinan there are museums and galleries everywhere, many artist show there wears in shops, and have their studio at the rear, there are often exhibitions on display around the town. The half timbered 16th century buildings here are amazing to see, as are the merchants house with the master stonemasons work.
The architecture dates back to the 13th hundreds, and there are buildings from each century to marvel at. The river port offers variety from the walled city, you can cycle to the coast from here, the old rail track now a cycle path. Hire is available from lock'n'drive, the shop down in the port.
Dinan is the jewel in the crown of Brittany, with its complete wall and a wonderful variety of architecture, in this tranquil setting you will find Dinan will amaze and enchant you again and again. Through the ages, Merchants from around the world would have traded here, making business with the rich and regal.
Local houses and buildings show the prosperity that evolved through the centuries. St Malo at the mouth of Le Rance is also a fortified walled city and garrison dating back a thousand years, and really is a must to visit, with wonderful views over the busy port.
Dinard sits the other side of the estuary and is the most English of coastal towns, well worth investigating. Fougeres is a medieval castle and town. Rennes is beautiful with much history is only 50km away. But in Dinan the tranquillity and beauty has stayed, for in Dinan time has stood still. VISIT OUR WEB SITE ON THE LINK BELOW.
How to get there
Dinan by air there are 4 airports close to Dinan, the nearest is Dinard (25klm) Ryanair is the airline so look for special offers. There is car hire at all the airports but its best to book. (other airports Rennes, Breast, Tours).
Dinan by train is easy with most trains coming via Rennes, You can travel all the way from London via Paris and use the super quick T R V train it stops at St Malo where you can bus or cab or train to Dinan. You could stop a few nights in Paris or another city along the way and have a twin brake holiday.
Dinan by sea, you are spoilt for choice St Malo ferry port is 30klm, then there is Caen, Cherbourg, Le Havre, all about 2 hours drive or use the channel tunnel and drive down the coast. Brittany ferries are good but a little expensive, L D Lines sails from Portsmouth to Le Havre, this is often a fair bit cheaper. I like to use the overnight sailings, book a cabin or take your sleeping bag, a drink and a meal and your holiday has started before you have arrived.
Dinan by road, the roads here are very good and seldom busy, the E401 from Caen brings you to the door as dos the E50 from Paris. Any search on map/travel sites will show how well Brittany is served, I tend to use multimap. It makes exploring the local towns and coast a pleasure.

Guestbook for Luxury gites in ancient Dinan
"We stayed in the 1st floor apartment in August and really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was so spacious even with 6 adults staying together. There was also so much to do in and around Dinan we were spoilt for choice and loved getting fresh croissants and pain au chocolat for breakfast each morning! Anne and Mark were so much help and gave us great advice before and during our stay. We would definitely recommend the apartment and Dinan to others and will return one day. Thank you". Joanne Fabian
"I really must say i really enjoyed our stay at the apartments above the bank. I found your advise on travel a big help and made a great saving on our travel cost. This is a big apartment and very French with some lovely furnishings and the biggest bed iv ever seen. Dinan was a great host with a surprisingly good night life, but its the age and design of all the lovely buildings was the the best thing, so would i recommend this place, yes yes yes.
