The Antigua region
Antigua is a tropical paradise famous for it's 365 white sand beaches. The warm Caribbean sea is perfect for swimming, sailing, snorkelling, diving and all manner of water sports.
The island's fascinating history can be gleaned from visiting both the museum in the capital St John's and English Harbour where Nelson's Dockyard brings the English Admiral's connection with the island to life.
Other places of interest include Betty's Hope sugar mill,Devils Bridge, the rain forest excursion on Fig Tree Drive, the duty-free areas at Heritage and Redcliffe Quays in St John's and of course the Sir Vivian Richards cricket stadium. The sister island of Barbuda, where the largest colony of Frigate birds in the Caribbean have their nests, can be visited on a day excursion
If you wish to eat out Antigua abounds with all manner of restaurants(local through to International cuisine) especially in the Dickenson Bay area.
Additionally to the shop on site there is a well stocked supermarket within a 3 minute drive and the colourful capital,St John's,is a 10 minute drive from the villa.
Major festivals are Carnival in August and Antigua Sailing Week in April.
Restaurants, bars and all manner of water sports are on hand at Dickenson Bay. As the beach faces west you can sit beneath your own rondavel, rum punch in hand and watch as a huge yellow sun sinks into the blue Caribbean and just possibly witness the elusive, legendary 'green flash'.
