Le vieux Couvent
About the home
The property began life in 1762 with additions in 1853. Now it provides very comfortable accommodation to holiday makers seeking peace and quiet in a typical French village surrounded by farmland and vines. This was once home to a body of nun' s who catered to the local peoples spiritual and medical needs. A small stone cottage also within the garden walls is believed to have been a stopover point for pilgrims travelling through Europe in the 18 hundreds.
This is an ideal retreat for friends or families in a safe, private environment where children can play and adults can anjoy the French village 'ambiance' whilst relaxing in the Charentaise sunshine.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region

The Charente is said to be the second sunniest region in France, something to be considered when looking for a holiday locaction! Churches from the 11th and 12th century are scattered across this rural landscape. Angouleme the regional capital has the very impressive 12th century cathedral 'St Pierre'. Boat trips can be taken along the river Charente which runs for 360 kms from the Haute-Vienne through the region into the Atlantic Ocean. Man-made lakes with beaches and picnic areas are easily accessed and the Atlantic coast is within an hours drive.
The Deviat area
Deviat is a sleepy French village which has changed little over the centuries. The local cafe/bar supplies our fresh bread and has a selection of groceries and veg.. Sunflowers and vines dominate the landscape making it a beautiful area to walk. Birdwatchers will delight with the abundance of birds of prey and it is not unusual to see deer and wild boar. Local 'Brocantes' and Fetes' run the entire summer and Angouleme hosts the famous classic car race around the city 'Ramparts' each September. The best time is really had by having the pool and garden on your doorstep with the Charentaise climate to enjoy it all in.
