Set in its own grounds and surrounded by stunning countryside the Marronnier is a beautiful old barn in a private secluded setting, tucked away at the back of a tiny hamlet away from the quiet lane. It has been lovingly renovated retaining all its old features, stone work and oak beams, it oozes character. With 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms this property offers accommodation for up to 8 people. With exposed beams and a kingsize 4 poster bed in the master bedroom with views across the countryside it is a delightful place to wake up in the morning.
The whole property is furnished to a very high standard. The kitchen is a well equipped fitted kitchen overlooking the courtyard. With its large range cooker as well as wood burning Rayburn it is a real French country kitchen. The large picture window, with its stone features, over looks the walled garden and swimming pool. Formerly parking for the tractor, the lounge and dining area, are light and airy, with patio doors onto the large terrace.
Beautiful salt water swimming pool, (*heated pool) walled gardens, large terrace, wonderful courtyard, covered gazabos, decking alongside the pool, plenty of outdoor seating, sun loungers, tables and chairs the Marronnier is as beautiful outside as it is in.

Its an ideal base to explore the many local tourist sites. Countryside lovers will appreciate the peace and tranquility this area offers. There are many walking and cycling tracks to explore. Local rivers to picnic next to, châteaux to visit, restaurants to savour the gourmet delights this regions is reknown for, famous caves to visit, markets to discover, ..............................the list goes on.
Golf lovers will be pleased to hear that the Perigueux 18 hole course is just 30 min drive away and a 9 hole at nearby Excideuil.

Formerly an old Truffle Farm, female pigs "Truies" were used to seek out the "black gold" truffle that the Perigord is so famous for. The barn was used to house the "Truies", and the attached little barn was were they cooked up the pig food. With hundreds of kilos of truffles found each year actually on the property of Le Marronnier it is a shame that those quantities are not found anymore !
The barn with its lovely stonework retains its character with "pierre apparent" throughout the property. With the old oak beams exposed it oozes character and charm.
Renovated to a high standard and finished with quality fixtures and fittings the Marronnier offers top quality accommodation.
The solid wooden dining table and leather covered chairs look out onto the terrace through the patio doors. Sit in the quality comfortable leather sofas imported from Italy and appreciate the view through the picture window to the walled garden and swimming pool.
The downstairs shower room with its overhead shower and pebble shower tray is spacious and airy. There is also a downstairs toilet, and basin.
Upstairs was the old hay loft and has now been transformed.
The hand crafted oak staircase is a prominent feature of the lounge and leads to the 4 bedrooms.
The master bedroom has a kingsize four poster wooden bed, oak wardrobe, easy chairs, table and drawers. Being at the gable end there are views over the courtyard, fields and rear garden. With is "pierre apparent", high ceiling and exposed beams this bedroom offers total comfort. The en suite bathroom has roll top bath with claw feet, situated against the stone wall and below the window, making it a perfect place to relax after a hard days sunbathing!
The double bedroom at the other gable end of the barn offers views over the swimming pool and walled garden. It has a wooden double bed, quality furnishing and fittings as well as a en suite shower room.
The third bedroom has a metal Napoleon bed frame, and is a one and a half bed size (small double) and a single bed, with traditional pine furnishings .
The smaller fourth twin bedroom over looks the courtyard and has one of the original barn windows that the hay was lifted through to store in the "grenier".

Large courtyard at the front of the house with the shady Marronnier tree and tables and chairs for sitting and eating breakfast in the seclusion of the courtyard in the gentle morning sun.
The walled garden to the rear is grassed and with access to the patio for dining in the evening. Listening to the birdsong and enjoying the evening balmy evenings dining alfresco on the terrace.
The swimming pool is nestled in the original "potager", retaining all the character the garden offers with its stone walls.
*Heated Swimming Pool. The pool will be heated from May till September. There is decking beside the pool and sun loungers for relaxing and sunbathing in the peaceful setting.
There are fruit trees of peaches, plums and cherries. Sit on the decking beside the pool under the shade of the peach trees.
The second half of the walled garden has been transformed to resemble a traditional french garden, with its raised beds, espalier fruit trees against the stone walls and a sweeping path of lavender around the top side of the pool.

The Dordogne region of France offers a wealth of interesting places to visit and see. The Marronnier is situated in truffle country, with acres of wonderful oak forests. The Perigord truffles are world famous, know as black gold !
One of the oak trees at Marronnier yielded 60kg of truffles in days gone past. With stories of truffles being taken to the local markets by horse and trap my neighbour recounts endless stories of past history.
With many tracks and little chemins you can take in the wild life on walks and cycle rides round he countryside. Just exit the drive and away you go exploring. Take a walk or bike ride to the local cheese farm and purchase freshly made cheese from a local producer.
Markets are a plenty with the choice of several market towns to choose from. Get your fresh fruit, vegetables, chicken, cheese, bread and meats. They are a real delight to visit, a feast for all the senses !
Perigueux is the capital of the Dordogne, this historic city is well worth a visit. Wander round the old medieval streets, sit and eat at one of the many restaurants and take in the atmosphere.
Just 25 minute drive from Le Marronnier, Perigueux is easily accessible.
The little village of Coulaures with its half church and wonderful stone bridge over the river takes you back in time. The small boulangerie offers a traditional artisan bread and patisseries and the local shop has plenty of basics in stock.
Excideuil is a thriving market town, with its old chateau towering over the local countryside, this very quaint town is worth wandering round. Pop down to the weekly Excedeuil market and sample some of the traditional French life. Sit and take coffee in the square after purchasing your deliciously fresh local produce, before heading back to La Marronnier to cook your wares !
There is an abundance of local places of interest to visit, as well as just exploring the local villages.
The famouse caves of Lascaux are just over 40 mins drive away, making this a "must do" on your holiday. The grotto de Villiars is also a wonderful cave well worth visiting, with its famous cave drawings.
Brantome, named the Venice of the Perigord, is a must. Hire a canoe and paddle sedately round Brantome, or make a day of it and paddle down to the next wonderful village of Bourdeilles, with its impressive chateau towering above you when you arrive. Pop into the one of the local bars or tea rooms or enjoy a "menu du jour" in either of these villages set beside the wonderful river surroundings. Whilst in Bourdeuilles spot the boat shaped house that straddles the river, with its flowers overflowing from the house, it is one of those "camera must moments".
Sorges, the Truffle capital of the Perigord, is only 15 min drive away. Visit the new truffle museum and maybe treat yourself to lunch or dinner at the Auberge de le Truffe - a gastonomic delight !
For those of you looking for some activity, then just outside the lovely village of St Germain de Pres there is an acro parc. You can follow the adventure trail through the tree tops, wizz wires, nets, tarzan ropes, it is a whole afternoon of entertainment.
The VeloRail at Corgnac Sur L'isle offers two rides along the old train rail, one direction to Thiviers and the other to St Germain de Pres.
A 25 minute drive from Le Marronnier there is a lovely lake beach set in a park setting with play facilities and restaurant/bar, situated just outside Thiviers. There are tennis courts in the nearby village of Savignac Les Eglises. Fancy trying your hand at Geocaching in the Dordogne ? Then you will be pleased to know that there are lots of interesting caches nearby.
A trip to Le Bugue is also recommended, and Les Eyzies a must with its prehistoric caves.
There is a whole wealth of places to visit and places to explore, this regions really does have something for everyone.
There are an abundance of cycling and walking paths directly from the Marronnier, or of course if you just wish to chill out beside the pool at Marronnier with a glass of wine, or two , there is something for everyone !
Important ..................... for the golfing fans, there is an 18 hole golf course in Perigueux ! and 9 hole in Excideuil !
