The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

Le Clos is located within France’s oldest and arguably finest wine-making region. The house is on the ‘Right Bank’ of the Gironde and very close to the world famous vineyards of St Emilion and Pomerol (Petrus is approximately ten minutes drive from the house). Magnificent wines, wonderful restaurants, pretty villages and gorgeous countryside and chateaux are there to be explored and enjoyed. Bordeaux is only 45 minutes drive and great for shopping, restaurants and historical sight-seeing.

The coast is one hour’s drive, including Arcachon - famous for both its oysters and the largest sand dune in Europe. There are a number of excellent golf courses close by, including Chateau Vigier. There are traditional local markets providing fresh produce throughout the week. More details of markets, restaurants and other activities are left at the house for visitors.

Weather wise it's warm (16-22 C) and sunny from May onwards until late September/October. July/August are the hottest months but May/June and Sept/Oct can be great too. Winters are generally mild.

Saint Emilion

There's a wide choice of local activities including; exploring historic towns and villages such as St Emillion (a World Heritage Site), Castillon-La- Bataille, Puisseguin, Saint Foy-Le-Grande, Eymet to name a few. Also visiting world famous wine making chateaux around St Emillion, Pomerol and Lussac, playing golf at Chateau Vigier (40 mins drive), horse riding (10 mins away) and fishing near Castillon, plus local lakes to swim in and a family friendly waterpark 10 minutes away by car.

Local markets abound and occur most days of the week. There are also a number of festivals throughout the year. We have left information including guide books for guests to borrow during their stay. Our property manager is very happy to offer ideas and suggestions.
