The Isle of Wight region

Less than 5 miles from Hampshire, the Isle of Wight shimmers in the English Channel. Notorious for its unspoilt beauty, leading sailing port of Cowes and many outdoor activities, the Isle of Wight holiday is perfect for getting away from it all - at any time of year. Whether you enjoy sunny days on the beach, portside pursuits or family days out, Blue Chip Holidays' Isle of Wight holiday cottages will position you right where you need to be. The Isle of Wight was home to Queen Victoria and Lord Tennyson. Cowes holds the oldest regatta in the world, Cowes Week. Jimi Hendrix gave his last major performance on the Isle of Wight.

Yarmouth

If you board the ferry to the Isle of Wight in Lymington you'll land in the pretty town of Yarmouth on the West Wight, and we have to say it's not a bad way to start your holiday on the island at all. The town's natural harbour has always made Yarmouth holiday cottages popular with the sailing set, and it's still guarded by Yarmouth Castle, Henry VIII's fortification built in 1547. These days it's another picturesque picnic spot as opposed to a defensive castle and a great lookout point across the Solent. Speaking of the Solent, there are some fantastic boat trips available from Yarmouth such as trips out to the Needles and fishing excursions.. The annual Old Gaffers Festival is one of the island's biggest event. Yarmouth Castle was the last of Henry VIII's coastal defences to be completed. Yarmouth's timber pier is Grade II listed.
