The Azores region

Vivenda Xavier is situated at the little

fisherman village named Porto Formoso

(the marvellous port).

Just about 3 minutes from the vivenda you'l find is the local beach Praia dos Moinhos. A very particular small beach with outstanding sanitary facilities.

Not far away you may enjoy a good cup of tea at Chá de Porto Formoso. One of the two old family business in Europe involved in tea production. This, all fashioned with the little fisherman port and the local church from 1509, turns this little place into a unique spot in Europe. The inhabitants make their living today predominantly from agriculture, cattle breeding, and fishing.

Sao Miguel

It takes about 30 minutes to drive from the local airport,

30 minutes from the capital Ponta Delgada and 10 minutes from Ribeira Grande, the second largest city on São Miguel. Ribeira Grande is known for its beautiful historic centre, the northern beaches known for windsurfing, as well as the better access point to Lagoa do Fogo crater lake.

Willing to practice some sport? Just 15 minutes by car to the north-east you'll find the Furnas golf course. This course was originally created by Mackenzie Ross as only having nine holes. In 1986 Cameron Powell extended them so successfully to the regular 18 that all the new holes feel as though it was designed as one initial course. The course is located in the Furnas valley which is famous for its tropical vegetation and hot springs together with its breathtaking views typical to the Azores. The fairways are undulating and mainly lined with trees providing an interesting game. The excellent greens tend to be elevated making them just that bit more of a challenge.
