About this location

The Lombardy region

Salo

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy and is suitable for all holiday-makers. Whether you enjoy water sports or sightseeing or whether you like to enjoy a drink on the lake front and watch the people go by or whether you simply like soaking up the sun on one of the many beaches.

As well as visiting the many charming towns around the lake, this is a very central location for a variety of day trips, for example, to Venice, Verona (the Verona arena is a superbly well preserved 2000 year old Roman amphitheatre which hosts the famous Verona opera. The summer opera season here runs from July to September and provides a spectacle for up to 16,000 people in the original arena), Bergamo a medieval town of art and architecture and also the superb Dolomite mountains.

Our nearest lake town, Salò, has good ferry links and therefore it's easy to get a boat to most parts of the lake from here. The long and beautifully kept lakeside promenade is definitely one of the best on the whole lake. The buildings here are also very classical and the whole lakeside area is extremely attractive. There are some very nice shops and a good selection of places to eat. On the edge of town, heading towards the south part of the bay, there are several shingle beaches that offer lovely views of the town and the mountains behind.
