Just an 11 minute car trip from the centre of Hobart transports you into the sleepy beachside suburb of Bellerive. Beachview is an elegant Californian Bungalow built in the 1920's. The property has been totally renovated and professionally decorated, creating a little bit of the "Hamptons" in Hobart.
Historic Bellerive has many attractions in easy walking distance including The Bluff, Fort, walking and cycling track, International Blundstone Arena, Croquet club, Golf club, Lawn bowls and Tennis. Alternatively, take a relaxing stroll along Bellerive and Howrah beaches, a swim in the warmer months or leave the bedroom window open to go to sleep with the soothing sounds of waves breaking. The perfect romantic getaway!
Bellerive was first settled in the 1820s, and at that time known as 'Kangaroo Point', for the large numbers Kangaroos that would be seen on the shore. By the 1830s the name was changed to Bellerive (meaning 'beautiful river bank').
The area around Bellerive Quay and the boardwalk has a quaint village feel, with many historical homes and buildings in the area, some of which date from the early 19th century. For heritage lovers, the picturesque waterfront suburb is perfect for a stroll to take in its beautiful historic homes from the marina to the beach. In addition to the heritage homes panoramic views to Hobart city and Mt Wellington are also on offer.
The Kangaroo Bluff Fort historic site is also within walking distance. Discover how Queen Battery was built to protect Hobart from enemy ships in the 1880s. The guns were never fired in anger and the peaceful location is today a wonderful site for a picnic.
After all this walking, return to the village for a meal and a stroll along the boardwalk by the marina.
Bellerive is also home to Tasmania's only international cricket ground, the Bellerive Blundstone Arena in addition to being a popular sailing area, home to Bellerive Yacht Club and a marina located at Bellerive Quay. Bellerive is also the eastern port of call for Hobart commuter ferries allowing easy access to the Wrest Point Casino, Hobart Wharf and the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens by a regular passenger ferry.
Bellerive has an extensive program of community events with many annual festivals, shows and performances such as the fruit wine, jazz and seafarers festivals. The Seafarers Festival is a free celebration of all things nautical and attracts a strong crowd, drawn to the Eastern Shore to enjoy the entertainment, food, drink and fine spring weather Tasmania has to offer.
