The Cotswolds are considered by many to be amongst the most beautiful areas of England. The special warm richness of the soft natural limestone buildings and the wealth of the wool trade has left a heritage of superb buildings. The area is now an attraction for anyone who loves stunning scenery, good food, beautiful walks and relaxation.
The barn is perfectly situated for visiting the most beautiful villages and towns of the Cotswold area. It is within easy distance of the scenic Upper and Lower Slaughters, Stow on the Wold, Broadway, Chipping Campden, Cirencester, Winchombe, Snowshill, Burford, Tetbury, Bibury and Painswick. It is an hours drive or train journey away from the historic cities of Bath and Oxford, and forty-five minutes drive from the Shakespearian gem of Stratford.
The village of Cold Aston is renowned for its unspoilt, rural charm and the majority of the buildings and houses are typical of this picturesque area. The village was awarded the Bledisloe Cup for the 'Best Kept Small Village in the Cotswolds'. Cold Aston boasts the lovely and newly renovated pub The Plough, which is the ideal place for an evening drink, summer or winter. The village and its surrounding area is steeped in Iron Age and Roman history and was mentioned as far back as the Doomsday Book in 1086.
Walk out the door you can have your pick of beautiful walks through the countryside surrounding the village. The well known Cotswold Way foot path takes you right through Cold Aston and Escape to the Cotswolds has a wonderful online list of walks to inspire you. If you prefer a set of wheels there are lovely cycle routes to sample and bicycles can be hired locally at Bourton Cycles, in the neighboring village of Bouron on the Water.
There is a Tescos in Stow on the Wold (15 minute drive by car) or a Co Op in Bourton on the Water (10 minutes by car) should you need to buy anything from food to toiletries.
