The South East England region

Bosham is steeped in history and used to be famous for ship building and oysters. The shipyards have gone, as have the oysters, but the old fishermen's cottages remain, tucked around the harbour where the sea water at exceptionally high tides still comes up through the floor boards. The houses near the water have a high step to prevent the water coming in through the front door.

The beautiful 11th Century church where King Canute's daughter is buried, features in the Bayeux Tapestry.

There is always something going on at Bosham Quay, in the summer sailing boats setting off or coming home, and in the winter amazing bird life and wonderful sunsets keep artists and photographers coming back time after time. The National Trust property Quay Meadow is an ideal place to have a picnic and watch the action.

The Cathedral City of Chichester is 4 miles away and history is all around within its ancient walls, as well as very good shopping. The Chichester Festival Theatre puts on various performances throughout the year, many of which go on to London's West End.

Chichester

Bosham is situated on Chichester Harbour which provides wonderful walking and lovely pubs and tea rooms. The race course at Goodwood is nearby on the South Downs. The Downs have recently been made into a National Park and the various walks and views from the top are well worth the effort.

The beautiful unspoilt sandy beach at West Wittering, popular with kite-surfers, wind-surfers, as well as the less energetic, is a short drive away.
