The Niccone Valley is one of the most sought-after locations on the Tuscany-Umbria border. It is a beautiful green valley dotted with castles and stone farmhouses and cypress lined drives. It is a very peaceful area and good for walking. Try Martin Daykin's "Circular Walks on the Tuscany and Umbria border". There are walks from the front door of Casa della Maestra. In May and June the valley abounds with wild flowers. It is very hot in July to mid-August but the high altitude of Casa della Maestra means the nights are always a pleasant temperature.
