Local public transport facilities are excellent for getting around meaning that although a hire car helps to access more of what the local area offers, it is by no means a necessity.
The coast around Torrox has over 8km of beaches to choose from ranging from wide open sand through to cosy little coves set back between rocky headlands. Within just a short distance one can find a variety of historical or natural attractions the nearest being Roman remains and an ancient lighthouse situated at the end of Torrox Costa promenade. The “pueblo blanco's” of Torrox, Competa and Frigliana are easily accessed as are the Cuevas de Nerja, a wonderful complex of caves that include the worlds largest stalagmite and acoustics that are often used to good effect for music concerts.
Torrox Pueblo is only a few minutes away giving an insight of what a real Andalucian town is like. Other Pueblo Blanco villages nearby are Frigliana (pretty) and Competa (more traditional).
Nerja is less than ten minutes away, an easy drive straight along the coast road or hop on a bus at the adjacent bus stop. Though busy most days, the place comes alive in the evenings. The Balcon de Europa has entertainers and all sorts of sidestalls along with a wide variety of different places to eat/drink nearby.
Slightly inland are Nerja Caves. Well worth a visit though we suggest you take a cardigan.as they are cool all year round.
Torre del Mar is a very traditional Spanish resort and has a nice promenade, often with sporting beach activities going on. The wide Plaza leading off the prom has a good range of places to eat at.
Slightly inland is Velez Malaga. Between the two is El Ingenio, This has an Eroski hypermarket along with a wide selection of clothing, food, houseware, sports and general outlets.
Opposite Paraiso on a Monday morning there is the local market. This sells most things from fresh produce and sweets to hardware and clothing. A similar selection of stalls can be found at Caleta de Velez on a Saturday. Tuesday is market day in Nerja.
