Stockton Rise is situated in the Lockyer Valley which is located west of Brisbane in the state of Queensland. Queensland is known by it's slogan "Beautiful One Day; Perfect the Next".
The Lockyer Valley is known for it's vegetable production, being the Salad Bowl of Australia. The Valley also holds some well known and attended events such as the Lockyer Powerfest (held at Lake Dyer, near Laidley), The Laidley Spring Festival in September and the Heavy Horse Field Days in May at Gatton.
There are many activities that can keep you interested in the Lockyer Valley and surrounds. Visit Lake Dyer, Schultz's Lookout, the Mulgowie Farmer's Market, Laidley Market Days, as well as stopping at any of the many boutique coffee shops and cafes in the Valley. You may be interested in bird watching, cycling, bushwalking, ballooning, sky diving, equestrian - the Lockyer has it all.
Stockton Rise is located very centrally in the Lockyer Valley as well as being close to all larger centres such as Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba and the North and South Coasts and the Somerset and Fassifern Valleys for a day's drive.
The immediate area is known as Glen Cairn. This was part of the original Cob & Co route with Glen Cairn Road being renamed after it was known as Old Toowoomba Road. Take a drive or a walk around the area, or read the history - there is much early history still to be found; from the old bridge on Sandy Creek to the billabongs where the horses were watered after a day's travel.
There is an abundance of old Australiana farm implements at Stockton Rise - you are welcome to explore and relive history.
The small nearby township of Forest Hill has some lovely eating places as well as a beautiful craft shop and butcher. There is no queuing at the Post Office where you can browse their beautiful gift selections or enjoy a meal here at Café 4342.
A short drive away is the town of Laidley with a Pioneer Village and lots of interesting buildings to admire in the main street. Enjoy a coffee at the local cafes in Laidley and go for a drive through the farming area of Mulgowie - stopping at the Mulgowie Hotel for a taste of some local cheeses and ice cream.
There are many special drives you can do in the Lockyer (see the Lockyer booklet in the house) or talk to Patti about some special farm drives where you can stop and purchase fresh farm produce.
