Piedmont is renowned for its food and wine and is home to many historic towns such as Alba, Acqui Terme, Asti and Barolo.
A car is essential in this area to get the most from your holiday but you can vary your days to the extreme.
Spend a day sunbathing at the beach, another skiing in the Alps, another shopping in the chic town of Alba - and enjoy the truffle fair if you come at the right time of year.
We are, of course, in the heart of the Piedmont wine district so a visit or two to some local vineyards is a must. If you are a lover of red wine, the drive to Barolo is well worth it.
The area as a whole provides a tranquil setting with stunning scenery in which to enjoy a break 'away from it all'.
Our house is located in a small, rural village which provides all the necessary shops and amenities within walking distance. A 5 minute drive takes you to Monesiglio, a slightly larger village with additional shops, restaurants a small supermarket and a weekly market.
There are many pretty villages to visit nearby, all very tranquil and friendly. Enjoy leisurely walks through hazelnut groves or relax and enjoy a long lunch with a fabulous selection of antipasti. Cortemilia itself is the global capital of the most renowned hazelnut - Tonda Gentile della Langa (or sweet round and refined of the Langhe) and contributes about 2 % of the world's hazelnuts!
During the summer months there are several open-air pools to choose from in the local area and I can recommend sunday lunch at the agriturismo just down the road from us, you can use their pool for the day and enjoy some delicious local food into the bargain!
