Oak Cottage - sleeps 8 in 2 twin & 2 double en suite rooms. Cot and high chair are available. One bedroom is on the ground floor. Well behaved pets are welcome.

This is a beautifully restored stone cottage that has retained much of its' character without compromising on comfort. Named after the magnificent oak tree that is opposite its' front door, you will find your personal outdoor eating area and barbecue beneath its' spreading branches.

It offers a large living room, comfortably furnished and providing English 'free to view' satellite TV and FM radio. The cast iron wood burning stove provides a cosy focal point should there be a chilly evening. The formal dining area seats up to 8 people.

The ground floor double bedroom has an en suite shower room. Upstairs there is another double room and 2 twin bedrooms. All have an en suite shower room. All bedrooms have hanging space, storage and bedside lights. There are electric panel heaters for off season visits. Please discuss with us your needs for a cot and/or high chair.

The well-equipped limed oak kitchen has a 'Stoves' range cooker with 2 full sized ovens, separate grill, warming drawer and 8 hobs. The kitchen is fully equipped for your comfort and includes dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, iron and ironing board. The washing line is sited to the rear of the cottage.

Although we are happy to welcome smokers we ask that they are considerate of others and do not smoke in the house or around the pool area.

2015 TOUR DE FRANCE. For cycling enthusiasts the Tour de France is coming close to Kerdeven in 2015. On July 11 the route is from Rennes to Mur de Bretagne (we are 23 kms from Mur de Bretagne) and on 12th July is goes from Vannes to Plumelec.

2015 sees the emptying of the Lac de Guerledan just a short drive away. This is an exceptional event, not to be missed. The last time this was done is about 3 decades ago when the hydro electro dam last needed maintenance. At that time there was great interest in the landscape that was uncovered showing the whole of the community that was swallowed when the valley was flooded, together with 7 of the locks along the Nantes to Brest canal. This year you will be able to walk or cycle along the footpaths and tracks around the lake and also take advantage of guided tours (in a range of languages) that will take place every day during the summer season. These will take you down into the lake area and will cover the history of the lake and the people who lived there, together with some of the legends linked to it.

The Tourist Board tell us that many events and guided tours will be offered throughout the summer of 2015 and we will update this information as it becomes available. We understand a full programme of the events starting in May 2015 will be available from April 2015.

The nearby Lac de Guerleden is about the size of Windermere and has two good beaches and a wide range of water sports. It is also possible to book a boat trip around the lake whilst taking lunch. The ancient Abbaye de Bon Repos has undergone much restoration work, provides a good insight into local history and is home to an annual spectacular Son et Lumiere During the summer of 2015 the water is to be drained from the Lac so that maintenance work can be done on the hydro electric dam. The tourist board is making available guided tours of the site which, when it was flooded, covered a small community and 7 locks on the Nantes/Brest canal. During this time the Lac will not be available for swimming and other water sports.

The Brittany region

Central Brittany is a place of beautiful rolling countryside. It has often been likened to Cornwall, but without the high population. It is a place of peace and the opportunity to pursue a range of country sports and activities without tripping over tourists at every turn. Visit the local markets - truly authentic markets for all year round trade. In most weeks during the summer one local village or another has a 'fete' or 'pardon.'

These are usually full of local colour, attended by local people and often end the day with a good hearty meal and perhaps some dancing. Children are always welcome. We are always pleased to advise you how to take best advantage of these opportunities.

If cycling is your interest we should perhaps mention that many cycling teams practice in this area, the countryside could have been designed to test your skills, or provide gentle exercise along the canal tow path if is this is more your style. Fishing is a popular hobby with many Bretons, with large patches of garden being the 'norm' many have created there own fishing ponds! For others there is the canal tow path or local lakes. We will be pleased to advise about necessary licences.

For those interested in history, Kerdeven is close to the Routes Touristique des Menhirs. This is a giant circle of ancient standing stones dotted in a circle around Brittany. We are always pleased to discuss your particular interests before you start your holiday.

Plouguernevel is a small town with a chemist, bar and small shop. For more complete shopping Rostrenen is only around 5 miles and has a good choice of supermarkets, restaurants and shops.

It is market day on Tuesday in Rostrenen, where there is always an extensive range of stalls over a wide area of the town. It is well worth a visit. There is a cinema, a variety of restaurants (we will be pleased to advise and book your table if you wish), 4 supermarkets, 2 chemists and everything else you'd expect in a small town..
