The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region

Bansko offers one of the longest ski seasons from December until mid-April in the Rhodope and Pirin mountains. The summers are short and fairly hot providing a wonderful climate for hiking, horseriding, fishing, cycling, white-water rafting, sightseeing of local cultural interests and golf at the new Ian Woosnam designed course. Together with the National Park this area offers superb Winter and Summer sports facilities for all abilities.

Winter:

Top of the highest lift 2560m

Total number of lifts 16

Total km cross-country pistes 9km

Total km of marked pistes 70km*

Longest run 7km

Longest downhill route 16km

Number of snow cannons 160

*2 nursery slopes, 8 blue runs, 11 red runs and 1 black run enable you to ski from the very peak of the mountain all the way down to the base gondola station in the village - a truely superb skiing or snowboarding experience. One of the few places that offers night skiing - down the main 7km floodlit slope for those who enjoy something different.

Snowboarders and fans of extreme winter sports can experience the fun park with rails, bumps, jumps and the half-pipe. Get an enormous adrenaline rush showing off your latest tricks or just be part of the enthusiastic crowd!

There are a variety of good ski schools to join. The Bansko Ski School is excellent with English speaking instructors and ski classes for five levels. Children above the age of five can attend. Nursery and Ski school give attentive and adept care to children and teenagers, ensuring improved ski ability in a short time. All around the main gondola station is an abundance of equipment hire shops which are all reasonably priced. The advantage of these is storing your equipment overnight without having to carry it back to your apartment.

Summer:

High temperatures in the summer make this an excellent destination for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits.
