The apartment is situated on the groundfloor of a 1950 restored Mediterranean style villa located on the second lane parallel to the beach boulevard. (see interactive map). Its very special position guarantees quietness, safety and privacy. Besides, the house thick walls keep the apartment nice and cool even in the hottest days.

This newly refurbished home, decorated with taste and equipped with modern facilities, is ideal if you don't feel like driving while on holiday: you can easily visit all places shown in the advertisement (apart from Ariana beach, 1.5 km away) just on foot! The apartment is unique for young couples with baby prams or for elderly guests who don't like to make efforts to go in and out, in fact you have only three steps to the house door. Its closeness both to the beach and the city centre makes you live in a more human and natural environment: everything is close by , including shops, restaurants, beauty shops, pizza take away, ice-cream shops and kids' playground. A small police station just opposite the villa makes the apartment safer than all other lodgings in Gaeta. You can practically leave your house door key on the outside lock and be sure that no one will ever disturb your privacy... And to know more you can read our guestbook:

"August 2012.

Thank you so much Adriana and Anthon! You've been wonderful hosts - your advice, your company and your hospitality have been greatly appreciated. Some of our favourit places were recommended by you - Ciccio's, for takeaway pizza and tielle, and La Lampara and Emilio (in the heart of the old town) for wonderful eating out experiences. Some of our favourit places include the cake shop Stenta and Sigma, the lively local food shop.

The house has been an ideal base not only fr exploring Gaeta and its lovely beaches, but also for visiting the area as far as Naples, Rome and Pompei.

"June 2012. Dear Adriana, thanks for your advice and help. Gaeta and surroundings make a great spot for an outstanding vacation. The apartment was very cosy, nice and clean. We hope to come back some times in the future. Pizza and Tiella from "Da Ciccio" were truly outstanding!

Sperlonga, Terracina, Itri, Minturno and Pompei are all very nice. But the old town of Gaeta was unforgettable!!

We loved the vacation and Gaeta is so beautiful. And Arenauta (beach) as well. We hope to return sometimes in the future

Thank you for all and all the best.

Jakub, Deniska, Jane"

All the people we met in Gaeta were very friendly and my little boy did not want to go back home!

Once again, thank you!

"Molte grazie, molte grazie, molte grazie, molte grazie!

We have had such an amazing Gaeta - thank you for your kindness, welcome and good sense of humour! We have really enjoyed staying in the apartment - such a great location close to the beach - and enjoyed the guided tour of the old town. All your recommendations for restaurants have been excellent and we will return to the UK "il grasso"!!! Anyone visiting should definitey sample LOTS o f ice cream and cake - Stenta (around the corner) we definitely recommend for patries any time of the day.

Even though Gaeta is quiet in September we appreciated having space on the beach and pretending to be locals (wel, not Liz and Sarah!!) - plenty of fun is still to be had in September in Gaeta. We went to Sperlonga for a day trip (note: 'do not get the bus travelling to Formia!) and enjoyed visiting a different town and the massive waves!

The market on Wednesday was well worth a visit (especially for Sarah who LOVES jewellery...

It was a great place to celebrate Sarah 27th birthday.

We will miss you all on our return to the UK - we will go back two looking the colour of lobsters and one pretending to be an Italian! We will miss the sun, sea, sand, wine, food, beautiful scenery and friendliness.

You're welcome to visit us in the UK any time, although we can't guarantee the sun!

Lots of love,

Heather, Sarah, Liz

"Feedback on our stay. Stayed at this property for rent. We liked location, good beds, cosy kitchen, nice terrace you can take food at. Special thanks to landlord with good English and good care for guests. Location of the property is excellent, just 2 minutes walking to the beach. Umbrella and sunbeds were provided by landlord, saves you about 15 euros daily. We've been given good advice for shopping, grocery and dining....Sandy beach and clean water in the sea make this place very special. I am sure we gonna be back here one day, maybe in 2012. Thanks a lot! You were very friendly to us!

GOOD PLACE TO STAY

"Great destination for travelling with young children. 2 mins to the beach, 5 min to a playground and all shopping you need nearby. We could easily manage without a rental car from Rome, taking the train (less than 1,5 hours) and the bus (15 mins) was very painless. Gaeta is a peaceful, historic and friendly town. Everyone was very welcoming although our Italian was almost non-existing. We easily managed to get hold of wonderful cheese, ham, wine, tomatoes, fresh sea food and more. Hostess Adriana was extremely helpful when planning, flexible when our plans had to be modified, and very accommodating during our stay.

"Dear Adriana, Tina and Anthon,

We had a very pleasant stay at your place here in Gaeta. Our children, 5 and 3 years old, enjoyed it too very much: the long, lovely sandy beach, the warm, clear water to splash around, not to forget the yummy pizzas and mozzarella!

We can warmly recommend Gaeta and your flat to families. Pity we didn't make it to the mount Orlando, maybe next time!

Thank you and have a good summer!

"When we started from Belgrade, we didn't know what we can expect in Gaeta. But we were pleasantly surprised. Gaeta is nice place, people here are very friendly and sea is clear and hot. Our hostess Adriana and her mother are very kind and helpful.

We had seven wonderful days in Gaeta so we can recommed it to everyone. Thank you (Hu ala!) Adriana!

"This is a cute, nice, clean, friendly, basic, traditional villa just around the corner from the lovely sandy Serapo beach. There is a nice small terrace with shaded area where you can read a book on those sunny afternoons. The beds are very comfortable (and let me tell you we have travelled a lot, probably the most comfortable to sleep in). The terrace is great for meals or late night lemoncello moments.

The Villa is a short walk to the port (5 mins) where we found Via Indipendenza, a long narrow street full of shops with fresh salami, buffalo mozarella, fruit and vegetable stalls and a lovely Italian atmosphere - makes you want to look.

The Villa is near supermarkets for all your everyday needs. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

There is plenty to do here for one week. We took 2 day trips. One to Sperlonga to visit the grotto of Tiberius, really interesting even for children, and the beach afterwards. Another day we went to Pompeii and Vesuvio - 1 12 hrs drive (on autostrada). Go early in the morning: it gets very hot! This is a place stuck in time, lots of interesting facts - get a good English speaking guide it helps keep the interest in the heat. Well worth the journey and heat once in a lifetime trip!

Gaeta resort is mostly Italians on holiday, not many other nationalities but that's what we liked so much.

"Adriana, Thank you to you and your parents for all the help and advice, especially for Pompei. We are the only people in history to visit on a rainy day but we had a wonderful time. - Pam and Dominique, England, 2008"

"We spent a really nice holiday here in Gaeta. Our hostess Adriana is very kind and helpful. We have enjoyed the peace and quietness of the city. I suppose Gaeta is totally different place during the summer months. For us the location of the villa has been perfect, near the wonderful Serapo beach and the other services (markets and restaurants) which we have needed.

For us from Finland this October weather has been really enjoyable and the sea with transparent water so pleasant to drop in. After six days here in Gaeta, our mental and physical batteries well loaded we start our way back home to Helsinki. - Henna Hikaheimo, Finland, 2008"

Further details outdoors

Many beach resorts where to hire parasol and chairs, cafés, restaurants, local shops where to buy fresh food every day, possibility to rent motor-boats or just pedalos and canoes to explore the coast. In July and August, organized one-day trips either to Capri or Ponza or to explore Ulysses coast as far as Sperlonga. Also boat trips to go fishing or special horse-riding tours on Mount Orlando.

Just outside the house you'll have a choice of two excellent bars where to taste a cappuccino in the morning, a famous "Pasticceria" where they make the best cakes in Gaeta (Baba Savarin, Profiterols au chocolat, eclaires and many many others) and ice-cream shops.

If you don't fancy sitting on the beach the whole day and therefore don't need a parasol, opposite the house you have a free beach beach stretch where to enter and sit or walk to one or the other end of Serapo beach to explore other small beaches or dive from rocks. You can also hire a pedalo for e.10/h and enjoy a swim away from the coast or pedal to the rock "La Nave" or to the "Turk's grotto". Sea water is really beautiful there!

You will be able to couple your afternoon stroll downtown with buying fresh fish or other fruit and vegetables, ice-cream and an aperitif at the main bar in front of the cinema. Afternoon activities start after 5 p.m. which allows you plenty of time for a good siesta after the beach and the swimming. In Gaeta shops are open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.! But they too observe the siesta time and close from 1 to 5 p.m..

On Wednesday morning devote at least a couple of hours to the open market: you will be amazed at the good quality items you can see and buy there at ridiculous cheap prices. Shoes are often of the best quality (hand-sown) directly coming from exhibitions and if you find your size in the model you like it is a unique souvenir to take back home!

You need indeed more than a week to enjoy it all and I mentioned only what you can find at 5-10 minutes walk from Via Roma! In fact some of our guests like to make at least a trip to Pompei to visit the famous archeological city or to Rome which can be visited with a special daily ticket costing e. 10.50 which includes return train, buses and underground!

Parking is a bit of a problem in Gaeta, especially round the house which is considered historical centre. Italians usually park in the huge market square 10 minutes walk from via Roma but that is possible all days apart from Wednesday (market day)! Alternatively, you can buy special cards at e.1/h or e 10 the whole day.

Further details

Front lane/garden is shared with the owners of the house.

Preferred method of payment is euros in cash.

Linen and home towels are available on request at the cost of Euro 10 per person per week.

Smokers are welcome on the terrace only.

To park the car wherever in Gaeta it costs e. 10 per day.

The Lazio region

The coast between Terracina (Circeo) and Formia is linked to Ulysses, Eneas and the Romans. The latter appreciated its mild climate and beauty and had their summer mansions built there. In 1957 impressive statues from emperor Tiberius' mansion were discovered in a sea grotto half way between Sperlonga and Gaeta and later exhibited at the national archeological museum along the via Flacca. Gaeta, whose name originates from Aeneas' nurse Caieta (20,700 inhabitants) is located on the promontory of Mount Orlando (now Regional Park) and has always held a strategic position which made it a fortress inhabited by Normans, French, Spanish dominations. You will see medieval walls, doors and a castle. Gaeta's catholic inheritance is still present in many outstanding churches and paintings but also in religious events (on the second Sunday of August a big procession worships the Madonna of Porto Salvo: the statue is carried on a fishing boat to bless the gulf of Gaeta) and local pilgrimages (to the Sanctuary of the Split Mountain). .

Gaeta

On foot you can visit the medieval town, the fish market, the port, Serapo beach, Mount Orlando with the impressive funeral tomb of Roman general Lucio Munazio Planco (1 century B.C.), the Sanctuary of the Split Mountain. On wednesday morning don't miss the local open-air market .

There are food festivals (in May and October), concerts (in July ), night life and music (in August).

By car , at less than an hour drive, you can visit Montecassino Abbey, the Sanctuary of Madonna della Civita, Minturno and its Roman amphitheatre, the fishermen village of Sperlonga, the national archeological museum and many other villages of interest (Terracina, Fondi, Campo di Mele, Maranola, Itri). If you are interested in swimming or just sunbathing, you have only the difficult of choice: apart from Serapo beach at walking distance, you can go to Ariana beach, Arenauta beach, San Vito beach or even farther towards Sperlonga beaches (12 kms away).

If you want to make a one-day tour, visit either Naples or Pompei, or one of the islands (Capri, Ischia, Ponza, Ventotene). The ferry for Ponza and Ventotene leaves just 5 kms away from the house, at the Formia port.

If you are interested in deep sea diving, join the official diving team and discover the beauty of the blue sea reserve in front of the Split Mountain. You can also do free climbing, or just cycling... Children will enjoy the Aqua Park in Itri and later you will taste Itri's famous olive oil products (egg-plants, paprikas and others)
