The West Country region

Swanage is situated in the south eastern edge of the Isle of Purbeck at the start of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

Sweeping farm landscapes fall away to picture perfect isolated villages, ancient castles, abandoned villages, blue flag beaches, fantastic pubs and restaurants, you must try The Square and Compass at Worth Maltravers, Durlston Park for a touch of Victoriana, the recently restored wooden pier, diving, in fact if you want to do it then this is the place.

And if you just want to relax the pace here is just right, plenty of outdoor venue's to just soak away the cares, spend all day watching the boats in the bay and the Isle of Wight in the distance, perhaps ponder a caption to put on your brass plaque on the pier to mark your visit.

As they say, the only thing missing is you.

Swanage

Lavender Leap is a brand new log cabin style lodge set in the country side. We are in a small park of a dozen lodges, each different, so there is no feeling of a holiday camp.

We are about a miles walk across a public footpath, sometimes with cows, from the town but the most favoured way of reaching Swanage is on the steam train. Discounted train tickets are available in the camp shop on the other side of the road with the whistle stop station about 500yds away. There is of course plenty of parking in Swanage some free some pay and display.

On the other side of the road to us is Herston Camp site, quite separate to us, but you are free to use all the facilities if you wish, a small shop, bar with entertainment, food is available during the week and there is also a Sunday carvery a show bar for larger functions, kids play area etc.

Swanage has some fantastic Blue Flag beaches with a traditional Punch and Judy on the beach all summer.

Swanage can best be described as a traditional seaside town, relaxed easy going with just enough fish and chip shops, pubs gift shops etc without the feeling that everything is geared to getting your holiday money, a place to relax.
