The West Country region

Park Farm is close to Somerton (around 5 mins by car) and 7 mins drive from Langport with its leisure centre and outdoor heated pool. You can book a game of squash at the Huish Sports Centre. Langport boasts two butchers, a greengrocer, a Tesco supermarket, petrol, gift shops, bakeries and a local doctors. You can eat excellent Thai and Indian food or order an Indian take-away. There are some lovely river walks and indeed bicycle ride opportunities in and around Langport which is really at the heart of the Somerset Levels. Most supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda (plus Ocado) will home deliver to save you a shopping trip! The Somerset Levels is an area famous for its early inhabitants who lived harsh lives on a group of islands which they reached by dug out canoes. These ancient islands are now the villages of Othery, Middlezoy and Westonzoyland. The region is famous for its withy growing and a visit to the Willows and Wetlands Centre at Stoke St Gregory is well worth a visit for a very concise explanation on the history of the area. You can also purchase hand crafted baskets of all shapes and sizes!

Nearby Somerton is a charming country town with a wonderful atmosphere and is famous as the alleged ancient capital of Wessex. Here you will find a supermarket, hairdressers, pubs and a good selection of coffee shops and gift shops. The newly refurbished White Hart has just reopened under new management offering first class food and wine in a very smart setting. There is a charming town square with an ancient Butter cross and the town has some interesting architectural buildings.

The climate in our area is generally milder than the North. In the thick of winter, the log burners downstairs together with excellent central heating throughout and the limitless supply of logs to which are welcome, offer a wonderfully cosy house in which you can really enjoy a comfortable and peaceful stay with either family or friends. In the summer, you can sit out on one of the terraces around the table and take in the absolute peace and tranquility all around. The location is truly stunning with pastoral views all around and woodlands behind. There are comfortable garden chairs and benches on which to unwind and relax!

Langport

Park Farm is situated on a quiet country lane offering peace and quiet with magnificent pastoral views at the front and woodland behind the property. Somerset has much to offer and the house is only 15 minutes from Glastonbury with its ancient Abbey, Wells with its wonderful Cathedral, Lytes Cary which is a National Trust property and Muchelney Abbey from which pilgrims used to travel via Park Farm to Glastonbury Abbey. In those days you were offered a mug of mead or ale - hospitality remains an important part of Park Farm these days in a more luxurious form it must be said. Here people sleep deep, refreshing sleeps as the thick stone walls offer a great sense of peace and security to those within. The nearby towns of Somerton and Langport offer the convenience of supermarkets but also a wide range of restaurants and pubs. If you are feeling adventurous, you can walk through the private woods at the rear of the property and to the Halfway House Pub which is about half an hour on foot to sample a fine selection of real ales and local ciders. The Smokery at Hambridge is another popular lunch spot offering smoked eel, salmon and meats and delicious salads for relaxing lunches.
