'Buy Local' & 'Eat Local'
Hastings and the surrounding area also has an established and enviable reputation for some of the finest food produce in Sussex. It not only boasts the best meat produced from locally bred herds of beef and Romney Marsh Lamb, but also some of the freshest locally caught fish from one of the largest beach launched fishing fleets in Britain. The quality and local abundance of this fair, means you cannot get tastier produce. Many of the local restaurants take full advantage of this and you will find that both locals and visitors frequent their establishments. Fish & chips is traditional when visiting a seaside town, but by no means the only dish on the menu!
Hastings also has a 'Seafood & wine Festival'. This year the festival is on 14 Sep 2013 To 15 Sep 2013

Hastings Old Town.
Hastings Old Town is steeped in history and is a must see for any visitor to Sussex. The fisherman's net huts and beach launched fishing fleet are the heart and soul of the the Old Town, from which centuries of history and tradition radiate out. The funicular railway at both the East and West Hill sites are some of the oldest working vertical railways in the country.
Chosen by Anthony Horowitz, for his crime drama 'Foyle's War', Hastings was the perfect setting for the popular WW2 drama, which captured the hearts of millions of viewers when it's series was aired by ITV.
Hastings has a long established history as a centre for the arts & attracts artists, musicians & actors from all fields. (Graham Norton, Tom Baker, Paul Merton and Eddie Izzard to name but a few.) The newly opened Jerwood Gallery is just one such centre, but the town is so rich in Bohemian talent that it is currently in a bid by Hastings & 1066 Country to be UK City of Culture 2017.
Hastings however, is more than just the old town and any trip to the region promises to be a voyage of discovery and of interest to all those with an inquisitive mind.
