Santa Caterina is within a 5 minute drive - here you will find a variety of local shops for your basic needs and a Sunday market once a month. A 15 minute drive will take you to the old Moorish town of Tavira on the banks of the river Gilao which inspite of some development has kept it's unique charm and identity and sense of history. There are many good shops, restaurants and an excellent daily fish and local produce market. From here you can also take a short ferry ride out to Tavira island with it's long sandy beach, sunbeds, bars and restaurants!
