Naples, the capital of the Campania region and one of Italy's largest cities, is a fantastic tourist destination. View the treasures excavated from Pompeii and Herculaneum (and much more besides) at the National Archaeological Museum (Museo Archeologico Nazionale), explore the narrow streets of the UNESCO listed Historic Centre and see the Veiled Christ sculpture in Capella Sansevero, admire the royal palace, the Reggia of Capodimonte and its picture gallery, the garden and museum of Villa Floridiana. See at museum of S. Martino ancient traditional Neapolitan crib and relax in its garden and wonderful gulf landscape….. If all that sightseeing has worked up an appetite, it's time for a snack (for instance sfogliatella, layers of flakey pastry concealing a centre of smooth ricotta) in one of many pastry shop (but a must would be Cafè Gambrinus, in front of the Royal Palace, or Moccia in a traverse of via dei Mille, Bellavia and Leopoldo in Vomero). At lunch time you can eat what may be the best Naples attraction of all – pizza! Now a staple throughout the world, this doughy treat was born in Naples. But choosing self-catering Naples accommodation, you can also take advantage of the city's incredible markets. Not only will stocking up here save you money on dining out, you'll also find many typical products, such as fresh cheese (mozzarella, provola), besides to get a true taste of local Neapolitan life.
Naples enjoys a Mediterranean climate, making it an ideal year round tourist destination. Summers are long and hot, whilst spring and autumn are lovely and warm. Don't discount a winter Naples holiday, though, as the weather is relatively mild, albeit wet.
