Our house is in the heart of a small village in the foothills of the Belledonne mountain range in the Alpes. It is a very old house (Napoleon and his troops passed right by here in 1815 on their way to Paris to reinstate the Emperor's power). We have been working on restoring the house little by little for the last 15 years.
Vaulnaveys is midway between the city and the mountains. It is only 20 minutes from the city of Grenoble which is a very culturally oriented university town. The Chamrousse ski station can also be reached in 20 minutes. Other ski stations are scattered about in the mountains surrounding us. In summer the Laffrey mountain lakes where one can swim, sail, windsurf, rent paddle boats are also less than a half hour away by car. The mountains soar up from behind our house and there are several hiking trails that depart from the village itself. Hundreds of others begin at only a short drive from the village. In Vaulnaveys one can find a small grocery, a news and tobacco shop, a pharmacy and a bakery drop-off and postal service. There are also three restaurants and a café/bar in the village
Uriage, a famous spa resort with beautiful rolling green lawns, is only 3 km from our village. There are numerous shops and restaurants in Uriage. The 3 star "La Terrasse" is reputedly one of the best tables in the Grenoble area. Also in Uriage are a beautiful rolling golf course and tennis courts.
The larger town of Vizille is 7 km from Vaulnaveys. Vizille is the birthplace of the French Revolution and the site of a magnificent renaissance château housing the Museum of the Revolution which is located on the grounds of a vast and luxurient public park. In Vizille there are two supermarkets and many differet types of shops and restaurants as well as a movie theater.
Now that I've described the surroundings, let's get to the house itself. It is approximately 115 square meters and is on two levels. There are three bedrooms (one that serves as an office with a foldout couch/bed). If desired this third room can be turned into a full fledged bedroom with no problem. There is a bathroom with tub/shower upstairs as well as a separate toilet. Downstairs there is a kitchen/dining room area separated by a bar and a living room with two couches (one is convertible) in a separate room. Off the kithchen, a small outdoor courtyard leads to the laundry room equipped with a washer and dryer and large sink as well as a separate toilet.
The main entrance to the house is through a 70 square-meter front courtyard which is half planted with grass and has an ivy-covered wall and potted plants; rosebushes, wysteria and lilac. Parking is available approximately 30 meters from the house.
We are hoping to rent our house for a period of 4 to 6 months in the spring of 2014, but will consider renting for one month periods.

Being situated in the heart of the French Alpes, we are surrounded by various ski stations, national parks, and mountain lakes. There is a famous jazz festival every July in Vienne about one hour from our house. Summers, in Lyon there is the festival known as "Les Nuits de Fourvière". Other festivals in the region are "Festilacs" and the Brel Festival.
We are three km from Uriage les Bains, a famous spa town. Uriage has a beautiful park with rolling lawns, tennis courts, a golf course and a Casino, many shops and boutiques and restaurants (one being considered the best in the Grenoble region). Vizille, seven km from us is the birthplace of the French Revolution. There is the museum of the revolution located in a huge and beautiful renaissance château situated in a vast and luxuriant park which is home to many species of birds, geese, ducks, herons, egrets which feed off the trout-filled stream which runs through the park. There is also a vast reserve with deer and antelope in the far end of the park. In summer the park hosts musical and theatrical venues. There is a movie theater in Vizille as well as two supermarkets, and many shops.
