THE GARDEN ROOM:

Simple, sunny, independent room and bathroom for 1 to 2 people, an annexe in the garden of our Belle Epoque villa, in the residential area of Cimiez, Nice.

Own bathroom with large bath, shower head attachment, washbasin, bidet and loo. Air conditioning, electric fan.

There is no kitchen, but we supply a fridge, microwave and kettle for basic catering- washing up in bathroom sink. Crockery and cutlery, coffee filters, teapot, sheets, towels and soap provided.

There is a friendly little general food store next door ( where you can meet the neighbours!) with fresh bread and croissants every morning.

LOCATION:

We are in lower Cimiez, a very leafy residential area of Nice: both the Chagall and Matisse museums, plus the Roman Arena and Archaeological site and museum, are close by, and there is a bus stop outside the house- no 17 going into town and to the train station. Buses 15 and 22, covering different parts of Nice, are only 3 min away.

Walking is pleasant and easy from Cimiez- 10 min into town, 20 min to sea.

NICE, the Old and the New:

Le Vieux Nice, the old town, with its narrow Italian style streets and tall apricot and cadmium houses, is full of interesting soap, spice, perfume and clothes shops and there are fabulous food, flower and antique markets in the Cour Saleya most mornings. It has an Opera House, lots of small bars, clubs restaurants and theatres, and a busy nightlife.

The centre of Nice has a wealth of beautiful architectural styles, grand palaces and hotels, ornate bourgeois houses and apartments from the 18th to 21st c, plus several art museums, from the Musée des Beaux Arts ( Musee Cheret), the Musée Massena, to the modern art Museum, the Mamac and the Theatre.

The Promenade des Anglais (for walking, cycling and rollerblading) borders the huge Baie des Anges, and Nice's pebbled beaches: swimming is good here, but it's also worth visiting sandy beaches at Antibes, Villefranche, Cap d'Ail, and small coves nearby.

There is masses to see in and around Nice, and numerous beautiful towns and villages nearby: Eze, Villefranche, St Paul de Vence, Haut de Cagnes, Valbonne, Antibes, Juan les Pins, Cannes, Vallauris, Mougins, Vence, Grasse, ( the perfume centre- make your own classes) archaeological sites, exotic gardens, museums, and painted chapels to visit along the coast, or inland by bus or train. There are cheap bikes to hire, and electric cars. (Skiing and snow boarding just a bus ride away in winter)

The cuisine is excellent, with many regional specialities from Italy and Corsica to add to the healthy mediterranean diet. Ice creams and sorbets at Fennochio come in 100s of flavours from cactus to tomato or avocado, via passion fruit and lavender.

HOSTS:

We are resident bilingual Brits, an artist and designer, and can help you with most information or advice visiting the area.

If you would like any painting and drawing tuition in studio or on location please email for extra info!
