The Midi Pyrenees area of France is unspoilt and very rural. The large towns of Toulouse, Tarbes and Pau are very good for visits and airports all about one hour to one and a half hours from the property. The property is in the Gers a quiet and undiscovered Department. The Pyrenees mountains are within striking distance of the property for walking in the Summer and skiing in the Winter.
The weather is warm in Summer sometimes getting up to 40 degrees but on average it is around 28-34 degrees and in Winter it can go down as low as -10 but rarely. The Spring is often wet and the best months for sun start in mid June and carry on mostly until early November. Christmas can be mild but has also been very cold.
The Gers is full of things to do. There are weekly markets in at least 3 small towns nearby every week. Where fresh produce from local farms is freely available. There are many lovely local wines and the Gers boasts the most healthy wine in the world 'Madiran' a rich red wine that you can taste in the local vineyards .
For the more energetic there is a beautiful golf course that welcomes casual visitors at Chateau Pallanne
Also Auch has a golf course at Embats.
There are nearby lakes for fishing and you can also enjoy waterskiing, sailing and windsurfing. There is one such lake just a few kilometres away, where there are canoes and pedaloes for hire. The countryside is perfect for walking and biking. The Pyrenees are about and hour and a half away, where the mountains offer white water rafting, stunning walking and scenery. In winter of course the skiing is excellent in many resorts within the Pyrenees.
Eating out in the local area is varied and ranges from simple to sophisticated. Bassoues has a charming restaurant under the eves of the market, it offers cheap food and loads of ambience.
