Drive 1.5 miles the other direction and you'll come to the awe inspiring Castle Ward (website address), a National Trust property with 18th century mansion .There you'll find over 820 acres of walled demesne and paths to enjoy. There is a picturesque farmyard and bikes and canoes to rent. There are numerous beauty spots to picnic or BBQ.

There is also a gift shop here and loads of exciting events to enjoy, particularly in high season.

To discover the other side of the Lough take the ferry to Portaferry and enjoy a trip to Exploris (website address) , Northern Irelands Aquarium. There you can make acquaintance with a large variety of Strangford Loughs sea life.

Follow the road round the coast and explore the quaint villages with their interesting antique shops dotted around the peninsula.

On the way back round to Strangford don't miss a glimpse of Ireland's oldest inhabited castle at Killyleagh.

Further on past Killyleagh towards base is Delamont Country Park (website address) a magnificent parkland run by Down District Council. There are walks on offer to suit all levels of fitness. You'll find here the most magnificent bird's eye views of Strangford Lough. There is a fantastic children's play area, outside gym equipment and plenty of picnic tables.
