MILLPOOL VIEW COTTAGE is a character cottage in the village of Stoke Gabriel, South Hams Devon with stunning views of the millpool and river beyond - Stoke Gabriel nestles at the end of a creek on the river Dart between Totnes and Dartmouth and is only 3 miles from the sea. Providing a peaceful and romantic retreat, perched on a hillside above a millpool on a quiet no-through country lane this very special cottage, one of eight originally built for the millworkers of the village, has been lovingly restored to a characterful and charming home from home, enjoying stunning panoramic views across the millpool to the creek and woods beyond. The centre of the village is a short stroll alongside the millpool and up through the old orchard, where you'll find a general store and grocers, gift shop, post office, restaurant and two pubs. Free wifi is avaialbe, including Freeview HD and Catchup TV. The Rivershack cafe on the quay, in view from the cottage, serves great food and is licensed - here kids can have a go at crabbing while you relax and watch the boats coming and going. Sainsburys is within a 5 min drive and Tesco will deliver to the door. A large M&S store is approx 20min drive away. For families and kids' fun days out the traditional seaside town of Paignton is close by as are the quieter family friendly beaches of Broadsands and Goodrington. More secluded Blue flag beaches are also within easy reach. All this in an area designated to be of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heavenly South Hams region of Devon. Please note there are two separate flights of steps from the lane up to the property - each one comprising approx 7 steps - therefore not suitable for the elderly or infirm. Although the lane is too narrow for parking you can stop directly outside to offload passengers and goods, and then park up either at the bottom of the lane where the road widens, or further up the lane. In addition, for added convenience, a complementary pass for parking at the Quay will be left at the cottage for you for use at any time during your stay - from here the cottage is a short stroll alongside the millpool at low tide or a 7-10 min walk through the village at high tide (you will find a booklet providing tide tables at the cottage).

Stoke Gabriel is situated in the South Hams area of Devon and is one of the villages along the Dart Estuary between Totnes and Dartmouth. The south hams is designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nowhere does nature appear so diverse as at the coastline around the South Hams which measures 60 miles and contains no less than 68 beaches from the most popular with facilities, to isolated rural coves. It's a valuable resource for peaceful recreation and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
Stoke Gabriel is a friendly boating village situated at the end of a creek inlet along the river dart between Totnes and Dartmouth, with a healthy year-round population, 3 pubs, a post office and local grocery shop and the cafe on the quay selling delicious local made ice cream where you can relax with a glass of wine and watch the kids crabbing along the millpool side (evening bar b q's are a regular feature during the summer months with the Rivershack's excellent reputation for food). You can hire a canoe and experience the beautiful river dart peacefully at a relaxed pace, or hire electric bikes from Totnes and explore the riverside from here along the bicycle lane provided to the grounds of Dartington college (where you'll find an independent cinema and lovely old pub serving great food), or you could stop off for lunch at the Cranks restaurant/cafe and browse the pottery and hand made goods on offer at "shops at Dartington". Totnes itself is not to be missed with its many independent shops and cafes and beautiful winding streets, anciient town hall and castle. There is 100 year old Yew Tree outside the church in Stoke Gabriel, reached via the old orchard. The village is situated 3 miles from the child friendly beaches of Goodrignton and close to the more lively Paignton beach - safe and shallow with its donkey rides and pier - it's a real old fasioned seaside town, great for kids and nostalgists! The wilds of Dartmoor are easily accessible within a 40 min drive for hiking or horse riding. The blue flag heavenly beach of "blackpool sands" has to be experienced to be believed, with its award winning cafe, its large bay of tiny pebbles backed by forest-covered hills, it never seems to feel crowded even in the height of summer - approach via car ferry crossing to Dartmouth or on road via Totnes. The stunning property Greenways is a short drive from Stoke Gabriel, not to be missed with its romantic interior and beautiful gardens and Colleten Fishacre is a stunning, scenic 25-30 min drive, from the adjacent carpark - just to the left before you enter the property's driveway - there is a carpark, from here you can walk along the clifftops and experience breathtaking views of the sea and small deserted coves below. Sainsburys is a 5 min drive from the property, a large M&S is approx 15 min drive away and Tesco will deliver to the door.
