Please get in touch with us for information on short breaks, as we consider breaks of all lengths (not just 3 nights as detailed) - as we provide self catering and not hotel / b&b accommodation) we cannot use the "nightly price" approach to provide an accurate quote. Short breaks are generally based on 2/3 of the week price unless short notice. Dogs are allowed by prior agreement at a cost of £15 per stay.

Salix Barn is a quaint cosy bolthole standing in the centre of the picturesque, sleepy village of Great Whittington - recent winner of Britain in Bloom. The village is located on St Oswald's Way and minutes from Hadrian's Wall, the perfect location for walking and visiting the many Roman sites and attractions dotted along its route.

The barn has a small, private sheltered garden, a suntrap where you can plan your day or enjoy a refreshing drink. A mile away is Matfen Hall, a magnificent country house hotel with superb spa facilities, fine dining and a 27 hole championship golf course. Great Whittington also has a local pub and restaurant, The Queens Head, and the nearest shop / cafe is a mile away in the village of Matfen. A 5 to10 minute drive is the historic village of Corbridge, with beautiful gift shops and a number of high quality eating and drinking venues. Also within easy reach is the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, the Metro Centre at Gateshead and the market town of Hexham.

Salix Barn makes an excellent base to organise day trips, ranging from a visit to Kielder Water for a spot of mountain biking or sailing, a jaunt to Alnwick to visit the spectacular Castle and Gardens, or less than an hours drive to the Heritage coastline for an invigorating walk along miles of unspoilt coastline. This is altogether an ideal barn for a couple or small family at any time of year, or for those needing nearby accommodation to Matfen Hall to attend weddings and events. The barn adjoins the owners property and all linen / towels etc is provided, along with fresh eggs from the (very) local hens.
