Welcome to The Mowhay holiday cottage, high on Carn Marth, in very beautiful west Cornwall.
The Mowhay is an idyllic romantic retreat situated on one of the highest points in Cornwall, perfect for exploring the dramatic coast and turquoise sea or the great gardens of south and east Cornwall. Inside this beautifully refurbished 19th century granite barn you will find a bright and airy living space with a beamed ceiling. Thick stone walls are well insulated, so the interior is cosy. Wainscot is painted in Farrow & Ball colours, the sofa is large and squishy, and all fittings are of high quality. The Mowhay is surrounded by bridleways with spectacular views to the south coast, and wildlife abounds. Cornwall enjoys the mildest and sunniest climate in the UK. Unpack and unwind.
We are pleased to welcome families wanting high-quality accommodation within easy reach of the wonderful beaches of north and south Cornwall. We are equally pleased to welcome anyone seeking a romantic hideaway in charming surroundings. The Mowhay offers peace and tranquility and is very private. The owners, Andrew and Richard, live in the farmhouse next door, but once we have made sure you are settled in and have everything you need, we will leave you alone to enjoy your holiday, although we are of course always on hand if you need help with anything.
The Mowhay has two bedrooms (a double and a twin) and sleeps 4 people in great comfort. Luxury bed linen and fluffy cotton towels are included in the price. Short breaks and longer stays are available throughout the year. Please note that although we welcome children under the age of five, the property is *not* suitable for infants.
**WE ARE DOG FRIENDLY**
You are welcome to bring your dog to stay with you provided you can agree to the following commonsense conditions: it must be very well behaved and kept on a lead when outside; it must be housetrained; it must not be a chewer; you will not allow it onto any of the furniture or beds; and most important of all, it must not be a cat chaser.
Carn Marth is ideal for walking, cycling or horse riding. The pretty town of Redruth is nearby, from which there is easy access to the A30 and the many visitor attractions and beautiful beaches of north and south Cornwall. The other hill that dominates Redruth is Carn Brea. The 14th century castle on the top of Carn Brea is now a restaurant, serving Middle Eastern cuisine in an extraordinary location.
Distances from The Mowhay: Portreath beach, 4 miles. Godrevy/Gwithian beach, 7 miles. Falmouth, 9 miles. Lands End, 24 miles. The Lizard, 25 miles. The Eden Project, 29 miles. Newquay Airport is 25 miles.
In 2013 The Mowhay was awarded 5* by English Country Cottages, on behalf of VisitEngland.
On a clear day you will see the coast of south Cornwall, including St Anthony's Lighthouse and Falmouth Bay, Dodman Point and Mevagissey. From the top of Carn Marth you can see even further, to Bodmin Moor some 30 miles away.

We love the area including Portreath for its beach and The Waterfront Inn for great food. Follow the trail up the hill outside The Mowhay for great views. A lake at the top and natural open theatre."
