Further details outdoors

The apartment is situated off a very quiet private road, which serves just one further property, meaning passing traffic is at a minimum. There are open views from every direction.

If you decide to 'eat in' you can relax in your own private patio area, with the use of a fixed barbecue, set amongst 3 acres of olive groves.

The property is also suitable for children in which swings, slide, small trampoline, seesaw etc are available to keep the younger ones entertained. There is also a lovely children's playhouse in which paints and paper are provided.

From the patio area, you get far reaching views over the countryside with the impressive Maiella Mountains in the back ground, where glorious sunsets can be observed.

A lovely 15 minute walk takes you to the ruined tower of Raone, which dates back to the 11th Century. From here you get 360 degree views of the area including the two mountain ranges of the Maiella and the Gran Sasso. The tower is situated on public land so is a great place to enjoy a picnic and a glass or two of the local vino as you sit back and watch the sun go down. Plenty of wildlife can be seen on the walk to and from the tower. Wild boar, hares and owls are regular sights.

If you want to leave your car at home there is a restaurant, bar and a supermarket just 15 minutes walk away, along a straight, quiet, pleasant road. A further 5 minutes walk takes you to the village of Passo Cordone with a whole host of other bars and shops, so you can forget the car and try the local produce.

If you want a quiet night in, enjoy a relaxing evening eating and drinking surrounded by olive trees, with the mountains to gaze at………..perfect!

We are surrounded by wine cantinas (wine producers) where you can purchase your wine direct from them, usually from a 'petrol pump' style dispenser. The nearest wine cantina is a lovely 10-minute walk, through their vineyards where bottles of wine can be purchased.

There are so many things to do both locally and further afield. We have details of many tourist attractions and other suggestions for keeping you as busy as you want. These details are at the apartment in the form of a visitors information pack.

We have produced many 'day out' suggestion leaflets, so you can visit somewhere, knowing a little about the area you are visiting. This includes suggested days out for hiking and walking, sight seeing, visiting picturesque hilltop towns or merely shopping. Certainly something for everybody.

If you are interested in a mountain or beach holiday, a hiking or walking holiday there is so much to do for all ages and abilities.

If you want to visit Roman ruins, historic hilltop towns or explore fantastic mountain caves, or even take part in a wolf-watching excursion, then we have details of all these and a lot lot more.

Further details

Lots of information is supplied at the apartment suggesting places to visit, the best beaches depending on your specific requirements, the more interesting places in the mountains depening on whether you are a walker, hiker or a cyclist and the good local restaurants and bars in order to sample the local cuisine.

The Marche/Abruzzo region

Abruzzo is described as the garden of Europe, a land of parks, the green lungs of central Italy. A protected paradise of beaches, hills, woods and mountains. Abruzzo boasts an area of protected territory that has no equal in the rest of Europe. It has the highest peak in the Apennines, the Corno Grande (2914m) and also the southern most glacier in Europe..

The mountain ranges of The Gran Sasso and the Maiella, both of which are visible from the apartment, have a huge amount of wildlife including brown bears, wolves, deer, boar, chamois to name but a few. There are also vultures and many eagles. Golden eagles are a common sight. There are numerous picnic areas including barbecues so you can choose the ideal spot for a bit of lunch.

The golden sand coast stretches for mile after mile with many beautiful beaches to choose from, Silvi Marina, Pineto, Montesilvano etc., catering for everyones taste. From private beaches where you can hire parasols and sun beds and have shower and toilet facilities, to vast public beaches giving you as much or as little privacy as you like. The sand slopes gently into the sea, making bathing very safe, even for the youngest child.

Pescara

Loreto Aprutino grew up around the castle and Benedictine abbey in the 11th century. Many of the characteristic buildings of the city were built in the Middle Ages and are still visible as you wander the streets.

Enjoy meandering through the narrow streets of the town soaking up the atmosphere of a very typical Italian town. Call at the former Castle, now a hotel at the top of the town for a coffee, wine or a spot of lunch. The hotel has been many things in its past including a monestry and a prison. The views from this hotel are breathtaking and now very popular for English weddings. You'll understand why when you visit.

There are many 'Festas' throughout the year in and around Loreto Aprutino. These festas are usually associated with food, wine and music and usually last for a few days.

The Church of Santa Maria in Piano in Loreto Aprutino is well worth a visit, with the frescoes being the largest and most important in Abruzzo.

Loreto Aprutino is twinned with Tring in Hertfordshire, so now is a great time for those of you from Tring to stay and visit your own hilltop twinned town.
