Villa Morocco is situated in a fantastic sea view location on the Ionian coast, near Santa Maria di Leuca, which is the “tip of the heel”, where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet. The location of Villa Morocco is quite special: it is very close to the beautiful white beaches and crystal clear sea (only 1500 metres, five minutes' drive) but at the same time it has the charm of an old “masseria”, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of its very large, mature Mediterranean garden with tall trees, flowering shrubs, ancient olive grove, palms and oleanders. The villa is also very conveniently situated for sightseeing, in fact the tourist towns are within easy reach since the junction of the highway is quite near (just 7 km).
Villa Morocco stands on the rock, and it is built around a large Mediterranean inner court with potted palms and citrus trees. It is U-shaped and it is divided into self-standing, completely independent apartments. Each apartment has two doors (one leading to the patio or the garden and one to the inner court), its own private outdoor areas (large shaded patio and roof terrace or private garden) besides the villa grounds. Each unit has its own private shaded parking space inside the property. Delightful sea views can be enjoyed from the villa and the garden.
Le Palme is a two-bedroom apartment, situated in the right wing of the villa, comfortably furnished with handmade wooden furniture and some antiques. From the living room with dining area, with flat screen HD TV and DVD/CD player, a French door leads to a large stone paved patio, shaded by a vine bower. A private garden, in addition to the villa grounds, is for the exclusive use of the guests of Le Palme apartment, which also has a private outdoor shower with hot and cold water, a masonry BBQ and a panoramic roof terrace. The kitchen with sea-view window is equipped with the modern conveniences, fridge and freezer, hob and electric oven, dishwasher, toaster, blender. All the apartments have access to the washing machine and the iron and board. The bathroom with shower enclosure and azulejos decorated mirror is between the two comfortable bedrooms. The bedrooms have bedside tables and reading lamps and all the beds, including the pull-out third one in the second bedroom, have slatted bases and comfortable spring mattresses. The apartment Le Palme has air conditioning but also ceiling fans that are often a more pleasant option: in fact all doors and windows have wooden shutters (and mosquito nets) that, together with the villa very thick stone walls ensure coolness letting you enjoy the scent of the sea breeze and of the aromatic plants of the Mediterranean bush. The property has a wireless Internet connection, the codes of access will be sent together with the files of information on the villa, the garden and the territory and the directions to arrive. A DVD library, also for children, books and guides, including an Italian phrasebook, are at the guest's disposal. The very large garden has fruit trees, herbs and a little kitchen garden: try the delicious taste of just picked season fruit or vegetables, or use the herbs for a barbecue with the very tasty local fish or meat. The stone-paved patio right outside the sitting-room is fantastic for al-fresco dining under the cool shade of the vine-bower but also for just relaxing looking at the olive grove and at the charming seascape. It's lovely to come home from the beach and have a shower outdoors among the olive trees, and the roof-terrace is perfect for an evening drink, looking at the spectacular view of the sea and the coast.

Salento, the province of Lecce, is in the extreme south of Puglia, “the heel of the boot” strip of land between the Ionian and the Adriatic Seas. Salento is one of the most beautiful parts of Puglia, and is a unique territory which combines the splendours of an ancient cultural tradition (baroque architecture, Norman castles, frescoes and mosaic floors in churches, Roman amphitheatres etc) with the beauty of nature (blue flag, crystal clear sea, long white fine sand beaches alternating with cliffs and caves, luxuriant vegetation). The beautiful landscape can be enjoyed on land (nature walks such as the ones in the nature reserve of Porto Selvaggio, bicycle rides in the country lanes among the olive groves, scenic drives like the breathtaking coastal road over the cliffs from Santa Maria di Leuca to Otranto) and from the sea, for example with one of the many boat tours that take you from the calm, crystalline waters of the Ionian Sea to the intense sapphire blue of the deep Adriatic Sea. Salento is also well known for the warm hospitality of its people and for its delicious food and wine. In summer many festivals and events are organized, one of the most famous is the “Night of the Taranta” celebrating the heady traditional song and dance “pizzica”. Many towns and villages organize local events called “sagre” to celebrate their typical dishes. They're very enjoyable occasions to taste the great variety of fantastic food and drink of this territory, which can however also be found in the many very good restaurants of the area, some of which are right on the sea.
The climate is typically Mediterranean, the warms days begin in May and continue until October; July and August are the hottest months. One of the characteristics of this “ land between two seas” is the sea breeze, which is the reason for its local name of “Salento, la terra del sole, del mare e del vento” (Salento, the land of the sun, the sea and the wind).
Villa Morocco is in the territory of the village of Salve, which is situated at about 5 kilometres from the sea. Because of Saracen raids, in fact, in the past villages were built high on the coast, while the watch-towers stood guard on the shore, and in-between the fortified farmhouses (masserie) were erected. This is why so many coast villages are built around a tower and bear the word “torre” in their name: Torre Pali, Torre Vado, Torre San Giovanni etc
Salve has a pretty ancient centre, with the church of San Nicola, Palazzo Ramirez, the ornamented staircase of Palazzo Ceuli, paved streets and many palaces, but is especially renowned for its fantastic long white sand beaches, all with blue flag status, and crystalline sea. Salve's coast villages are: Posto Vecchio, Marina di Pescoluse, Torre Pali and Lido Marini.
Torre Vado, San Gregorio and Santa Maria di Leuca are quite close, as well as Torre Mozza and Torre San Giovanni, in the opposite direction (towards Gallipoli). In the coast villages there are many amenities (boat tours, windsurf, tennis, etc). Villa Morocco is situated on the coast between Torre Pali and Marina di Pescoluse, which are pretty villages, with little shops, restaurants etc.
In Salve there are many facilities, a bank, the Post Office, a chemist, shops and supermarkets etc.
Salve's position, very close to S.Maria di Leuca and conveniently situated for the highway, makes it easy to visit many of the wonderful tourist towns of the territory.
Elegant Lecce, the “Florence of the South” is less than an hour's drive from the property. In this magnificent city you will find splendid architecture, Roman amphitheatres etc. Near Lecce there is also the well known golf course Acaya Golf Club. Gallipoli, whose name deservedly means “beautiful city” in ancient Greek, is at about 30 minutes from our villa. A walk in the enchanting streets of Galatina (at about 45 minutes from VillaMorocco) will lead you to the marvellous frescoes of Santa Caterina's church. Otranto is situated on a stunning coast and the town itself is really lovely: don't miss the castle and the cathedral (with the famous mosaic floor depicting the “tree of life”). The famous church and the lighthouse on the headland between two seas and the renowned villas of the Sea Shore Promenade of Santa Maria di Leuca are at only 9 km from our property and are really worth a visit. According to the tradition, St Peter himself is believed to have landed here and to have said that a place so beautiful should be seen at least once in life. Within easy reach from the villa there are also many villages with a fascinating baroque centre like Presicce, Alessano, Specchia, Ruffano, Maglie, Tricase, etc. Last but not least, all the landscape is rich in artistic details: the Saracen watch-towers, dry-stone walls, the embattled towers of the fortified farmhouses…
