Bridport is ideally placed to explore the Jurassic Coast, West Dorset and East Devon. Within easy reach are Lyme Regis, Beer, Sidmouth and Exeter to the west and Chesil Beach, Abbotsbury, Weymouth and Poole to the east. Dorchester, Dorset's county town, and heart of Thomas Hardy country, is just half an hour away. Dartmoor is about 1.5 hours.
The X53 bus tours the length of the Jurassic Coast from Exeter to Poole and stops in the centre of Bridport, a few minutes walk from Sunnybrook.
Bridport is fun-filled and vibrant, with street markets twice a week, a monthly farmer's market and live musicians who often perform in the town's centre: Bucky Doo square. It boasts a wealth of other entertainment, including numerous coffee houses, wine bars, pubs and restaurants, as well as the Electric Palace and the Arts Centre, which have live acts and film shows, catering for every taste. There are numerous supermarkets, including Morrison's and Waitrose, both of which are within walking distance, whilst the Co-Op and Lidl are no more than a mile away. It is possible to walk across the fields to the coast at West Bay (now better known as 'Broadchurch'!) in around half an hour. There you may play golf, go mackerel fishing or enjoy a high speed (or more sedate) boat trip along the coast or perhaps just go to the beach to relax. You can also join the South West Coast Path at West Bay, for walks east towards Burton Bradstock with its award winning beachside restaurant or west towards the fossil rich cliffs of Charmouth and historic Lyme Regis.
