Further details indoors

Some of the original furniture dating back to mid 19th century has been restored. All the other pieces of furniture are wooden or wickerwork, sofas are in leather and the internal doors have been hand-decorated by a local craftsman. No plastic furniture. Two double bedrooms sleep 4. A third attic bedroom hosts 2 adults or 3 kids. The attic bedroom is the only part of the house which is not on ground floor. Central heating and a central hot water system make this holiday house cozy and comfortable like your home.

Further details outdoors

This house develops all along a spacious paved garden, which is totally invisible from the street. You can stay in the open air all the year round and have your own privacy, and you can have lunch or dinner in the open air, under our bower. The well in the middle of the garden is sealed for kids safety. Sun lovers may also like another external space we have: our roof level terrace in front of the attic bedroom. A small car can be parked inside, but there is no need to occupy a part of the garden with a car, this is a very safe area.

Our house is very comfortable, an ideal place especially if your holidays last longer than one week and you need a place not just for sleeping. We can provide you with a very good ratio between quality and price if you stay longer than one week.

The Sicily region

What can be said about Sicily that hasn't been already told? Sicily is not just your typical sun and sea holiday destination, built up from scratch by the tourism industry. We host at least one piece of heritage for any kind of civilization that has ever developed in western Europe: being here allows you to experience with your own eyes the entire history of the western world from its origins! Namely, ancient Greek and Roman heritage, medieval towers and castels, fine Baroque architecture are within one hour drive of this house in downtown Catania, Acireale, Taormina and all around Mount Etna. Ceramics factories, exhibitions and shops are at Caltagirone. Siracusa, Noto and the Roman "Villa del Casale" at Piazza Armerina can be reached in a hour and half drive, whereas Agrigento's "Valle dei Templi" and Baroque Ragusa Ibla, Scicli and Modica can be reached in two hours. Modica is also famous for a special way to make chocolate with no milk (Aztec style, introduced under Spanish rule). And then there is the wide variety of landscape Sicily displays, according to season, county and sometimes mood: bare and dry in the summer, green and moody in Spring and Autumn, vivid and clear in Winter. You can check our pictures on here to get an idea.

Catania

You can enjoy a quiet and appeasing atmosphere in this village of 5000 dwellers just outside Catania, which you definitely do not find downtown. This village is a holiday place for us all the year round, not just in the Summer, and never shuts down: you never need to use a car to buy food or find a restaurant and you never feel that sort of sad "closed for season" atmosphere that you often find in coastal towns out of Summer. A very peculiar, hilly countryside surrounds villages all around this area on the volcano, with parks and picnic areas opened inside ancient craters. There are many scenic routes you can take all around Mount Etna or down to the coast, which is an average 20 km away. You can also walk and hike inside the Mount Etna Nature Reserve: the main excursion centre for Mount Etna is 17 km north of our house. If you want to see more of the island, motorways are 10 km away, allowing you to move fast. Even though fast is a word you should erase from your dictionary if you want to visit our beautiful island avoiding tourist traps: you will notice that there is nothing like Sicily in Europe for slow travellers!
