Situated in the South-West of France Dordogne has remained one of France's most beautiful and favourite holiday destinations for its sheer variety of areas, unspoilt beauty and diversity of things to do. Visit chateaux perched on rocky outcrops or nestled amongst woodland or rolling hills, famous prehistoric sites (Lascaux and Les Eyzies), stunning gardens, breath taking villages of mellow stone, winding rivers to swim, kayak or fish in, fabulous markets, gourmet restaurants, and of course, wine tastings and vineyards. The climate features distinct seasons with cold but usually dry winters and hot summers and if you need a visit to the seaside it is only 2 hours away from the resorts around Bordeaux and Arcachon.
The property is situated 20 kms south of Bergerac which means that you are not far from the airport and the bustling activity of a town that boasts a medieval centre for sightseeing and sits nestled on the Dordogne river for barge trips or you can enjoy the more modern attractions of a larger town with fine eating, markets, very good shopping, banks, hospitals, museums and theatres.
We are 3.5kms away form the village of Issigeac which is one of the oldest and smallest of the bastide (fortified) towns and one of the most beautiful. It does however have a couple of butchers, bakers, a post office, bank, small medical centre and dentist, a couple of little supermarkets and the best market in the area which happens on a Sunday so very useful for stocking up for the week!
Driving out from there are things to see in every direction, in fact it will be hard to choose and I have no doubt you will be back to visit the bits you never got around to the first time.
